Hi,

In my Allegro Open Road 2007 V10 32BA I have a sticker by driver the driver's feet (near VIN plate) that says the GVWR is 22,000 and then I have a paper sticker in the bedroom closet (stuck there by Tiffin, states all serial numbers for appliances, etc.) that says GVWR 20,500, which one is correct?

thanks

The 22.5 tires showed up in 2006 model year but you have a very early version considering a build date of 12 June 2005 which could explain the smaller tires. Other than climbing under and figuring out the rear axle I'm not 100% sure which direction to go and would fall back on a Ford installed placard. There should be one on the firewall and the frame driver's side forward of the front wheel.

Which VIN Decoder did you use?

The 2006 and newer had 19.5 tires on the 20,500 lb chassis, the 22.5 was on the 22,000 lb chassis, mine is a 2007 Ford chassis with 19.5 tires and GVWR is 20,500 lbs.

Just cause the build date says 2005 does not mean its a 2005, I think that is a 2006 Ford chassis because it says the 5 speed tow haul trans since that was not offered on the 2005 chassis, and if you have the 19.5 tires than its GVWR should be 20,500 lbs, I think the label by the drivers seat is incorrect and it appears you have one of the 1st 2006 chassis built since it was built in June 2005 and maybe the 1st hundred labels or so were incorrect.

My RV is a 2007 chassis with the 19.5 tires on a 32 foot 2008 Bounder and its GVWR is 20,500 lbs.

Ran my VIN and if came back with 18K lbs which is correct. My build date is 5 Feb 2005 which makes my chassis even older. So much for the early build and the tire size guess.

Ford made both a 22,000 lbs and a 20,500 lbs chassis I would guess. Some how both plates got installed. GVWR is GVWR no matter how much stuff you put in it.

Go to a FORD dealer to sort it out. Maybe!!

This one as well as another that escapes me, but they both gave similar results:

Not the most scientific method but Ford equipped the 20,500 lbs chassis with 19.5" tires while the 22,000 lbs chassis has 22.5". Also the rear axle is different between the two but a bit more difficult to determine. The 20,500 chassis has a Dana 135 rated at 13,500 lbs while the 22,000 chassis has a Dana 145 rated at 14,500 lbs. I thought a VIN decode would state the limit but I ran a check for my coach and no luck concerning the chassis GVWR.

The stick with the Ford logo for the incomplete chassis as delivered is the one I would go by rather than the couch builder.

Yes, you would think so...our tires are 19.5 but says 22,000.
