Hi,

I just found out that the local propane dealer in Regina doesn't offer a fill service for fixed tanks on RV's. That means I get to pay the government road tax on any propane I buy here.

Current pricing is $1.46995 per liter, or 1.32428 per pound, or $5.57112 per US gallon.

Road tax is 10 cents per liter.

I live in Alberta and it costs about $70 to fill the propane tank on my Class A. By luck, I was almost out of propane one time when I was in Missoula, MT and went to the local RV dealer to fill up. They charge $0.99 per gallon for propane. We were down there 2 weeks ago and propane tank was down to 1/4 tank on an 80 pound tank and it cost $13.86 to fill it up. Huge savings over what it is here in Alberta.

Have you tried one of the home delivery propane services in your area? My experience is that they are usually less expensive than the other options. When I googled it, I see there is one called Superior Propane that seems to have service your area.

I find that Tractor Supply Stores have the cheapest propane around, however not all have propane and not all have room to fill an RV. The second are the Uhaul stores.

Is there any farm coops?? That is one alternative source I have used. Many of your rental shops sell propane, but they are usually the most expensive. Look up your local distributor that fills home propane tanks, that should be the cheapest.

Around here, Menards started selling propane for RVs. That has been the cheapest anywhere. They are trying to build an infrastructure for propane fueled vehicles. They have different prices based on use. The operator just punches into the computer what it is for, and the amount is calculated at the pump.

We filled up our propane at one distributor location where they just had us pull up near one of their delivery trucks to hook up. The fill port fittings on home service tanks/cylinders are the same as those on permanent RV tanks.

You could buy a 100 lb. cylinder (no OPD required), and refill the frame mounted tank from it. Just turn the cylinder upside down so you get liquid out of it, and make a hose to connect the two together. Do not use a regulator. We used to do that to refill backpack torch bottles for slash burning in the Forest Service.
