Flooring replacement questions...

We want to replace carpet with hard flooring of some sort in our 92 35' Southwind. I was thinking about the vinyl Allure(?) click together planks but now am rethinking into a good quality one piece vinyl flooring-no gaps. Has anyone installed? If so did you glue down or "float' it and attach around the edges? I would probably try to find someone to do this job because I have laid vinyl flooring in homes before and its a job.

Since laminate comes in a lot of different thicknesses, how do you know what one is the right thickness for your slides? I've yet to find out, and since carpet compresses, I can't even use that as a guide.

Pull the carpet out and then see what you have. My slide doesn't even touch my carpet and assume there must be a pad under it. So I'm confident I could put most any thickness laminate down and not have a problem. I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to. I'll probably pull the carpet out before I buy anything just so I can make sure how much room I have to work with.

Our slide hasn't left any marks on the carpet in our coach so I think as long as the laminate is thinner than the carpet it shouldn't be an issue. Our 5th wheel had marks on the carpet where the slide slide in and out so there are some RVs where that can be an issue.

Installed Allure in our home from Home Depot. It shrinks and that made the seams open up. We followed all the directions to the letter. It looked good when first put down but in less than a year we took it all out and replaced it with Pergo. The Allure seams opened and showed gray backing, gaps and the floor puckered. I'd run from Allure!

One year with stick together Allure in our coach in cold and warm weather. So far the temps are no problems, but in cold weather the joints expand somewhat but close back up as the temps go up. Make sure it's floated and leave a small gap on on side for expansion. We don't miss the old carpet.

Quite a few people on here have told stories of installing Allure and have been happy with it, but if you read the instructions on Allure they say don't install it in a location where temps go below 55 or above 85. Now in a house that usually won't be a problem because housing are generally always kept in that temp range. Is your motorhome always keep within that range? I live in California where we don't get extreme weather, but I know in the winter it will get below 55 in my motorhome, and I have indoor storage.

I would not use Allure, especially the version sold at HD that uses an adhesive strip at the edge to join the pieces.

That said, I had the carpet replaced in my previous DP by a shop that had previously done some good work on my coach. Unknown to me, they were in financial trouble when they were doing my flooring so they used the stick together Allure on my coach. I knew we were likely going to be trading the coach soon so didn't complain too much. We did trade the coach within two weeks of having the flooring change so I had no real experience with the Allure but wondered how it would hold up to temp changes.

I have spoken several times to the fellow who bought my traded coach three years ago. He has never mentioned an issue with the flooring.

I laid Allure flooring in my Moho. Very labor intense, but very satisfying to live with. Have to lay down 1/8 panel first, then leave 1/8 gap around everything so you have a floating floor. Seal around all edges with a silicone sealer including drivers and passengers seats. Wonderful to have hard flooring.

There are many options. Mannington makes a line of vinyl plank flooring called Adura that is very high quality and comes in many patterns and colors. We used it in our stick house and the stuff is beautiful and durable. There are also many options in engineered wood plank flooring.
