Fresh water

While connected to city water we are still running off the fresh water tank, almost ran empty. Was not told of a valve to change over am I missing something? This is our first rv and first trip!

For my city water to flow properly, without the pump on I must turn one valve off (to the on board tank) and turn another valve on for city water. Valves are located in a variety of different places depending on each rig.

Look for a Holiday Rambler forum or facebook group. More than likely to find those with similar rv's that may have same issues and solutions.

That sucks the plan to take it back for things like this we have started a list.
Anyone with a holiday rambler that feels like the jack are set too low
For the rig we drag on the most unsuspecting places!

You would get some sort of water coming out even with lower pressure. I recommend calling Holiday Rambler and have them walk you through it all over the phone. Or take it back to the dealer for them to check.

Pump will only run when there is a demand for water, i.e. you turn on a faucet. It could also continuously run if there is a leak.

Make sure your on-board water pump is turned off so it can't run.

It will depend on the water pressure and your regulator. If the city water pressure is lower than your pump then your pump will try and pump up to its shut off setting. Though this has only happened once to me because city pressure is usually much higher than the pump switch. You said that your pump was off though so I would start looking for a leak somewhere. Even a fast drip will drain many gallons over several days.

If self contained, then you had to have the pump on to draw water from fresh water tank.

If on city water and pump is not on, then you should not be drawing from the freshwater tank. I think your pump is on and you are completely pulling from the freshwater tank.

I really think the opposite is true, of what a previous poster stated regarding opening and closing a valve. I believe that in most motorhomes, once you are connected to city water and have the water turned on, it is automatic, without the need for turning any valves. Make sure there is no obstruction of a filter on the inlet side of the motorhome. What is curious, is why, if you had the water pump off, the tank would empty. There is no way that the water would flow without the pump being on, at least in my opinion. Did water flow past the regulator? Try it without the regulator.
