Future owner questions

Ok so the wife and I have been shopping around and fell in love with the Thor Hurricane 35C bath and a half unit.
Upon some research we found the Miramar 34.1 with larger wheels, tanks ect. Problem is there is none close to us to sit in, play with, test drive! This is not an "Im buying next week so I need hurry" so any Input on 2016-17 34.1 units would be greatly appreciated!! I heard the new 2017's have a new 6 speed trans that would assist with the Rockies and Smokies!!

Also the only place we have to purchase around here is Camping world and I have mixed feelings about that! Would it be worth the trip to Elkhart or down to Texas with Motor Home Specialists?

Thanks for the reply Jim, I wasn't being harsh towards you, I didn't want to mention it but, the consumer of the complaint owned a 2017 Winnebago gas coach on a Ford Chassis! And how in the heck paint got into the fuel system is a mystery to me?

The Dr. with his mass repair receipts drove the coach back to Red Bay Alabama, and met with Bob Tiffin, who refused to take the coach back.

this tells me without a doubt this DR is a nutcase
I have had a couple dealings with Bob in person and he bends over backwards to help people

The new transmission started in model year 2016 units. You can tell easily if it has it by looking at the dash...D421 I believe is 6 spd, but for sure if no 4 it's the older one. Technically hp rating goes down with the new trans, but it's the same engine and those that have driven both say new is much better.

Check out RVDirect for pricing info, very easy to get a quote and it's usually a good one. I found only one place that would beat them (and MHSRV by far) and that was MHS2GO which is motorhomes to go in Grand Rapids MI. Felt like I got a fantastic deal, got treated well even after sale and I live 5 hours away.

You might want to check out some owner forums to read some of the issues or likes. I'm also wondering with a small motorhome, why you want 1-1/2 baths. That takes up a lot of your living space. We full-timed for 16 years with only one bath. 🙂

Andy, I'm just throwing this out there for you to process not trying to be negative O.K. My wife was on a RV Consumer Reports Blog last night and started reading to me all the RVers have major problems with there RV's. And the top 3 manufactures with major problems were 2015 to 2017 Winnebago, Thor and Tiffin. The two problems that stuck out in my mind were newer Ford Chassis some how, paint was in the fuel system and the posters said they went to the RV Manufactures who turned them away saying it was a Ford Chassis problem? Ford sent these people back to the manufactures and these consumers were on a merry go round. The other was a Doctor who bought a high end Tiffin DP! It turned out to be a lemon and the State the Dr. was in had a lemon law. The Dr. with his mass repair receipts drove the coach back to Red Bay Alabama, and met with Bob Tiffin, who refused to take the coach back. The Dr. said he has a lawsuit pending against Tiffin. There were so many complaints on this website it was incredible!

You already know, but I'll reiterate, don't buy from CW.

I'd suggest buying in Elkhart but wherever you decide to buy, always check them. RVServiceReviews.com is a good start, if a dealer has a bad service deptment, you'd probably not want to buy there. Yelp might have some helpful reviews.

I think that buying from the factory MAY have some advantages but you will still have to have a local dealership perform any warranty work, unless you want to drive back to the factory each time.
Perhaps your best bet would be to go to one of the large RV shows. This will give you an opportunity to see the latest rigs as well as maybe make a purchase at a discount of a show model.
