Does anyone here know how to replace battery or charge it up on Generac 75D. My generátor cranks up but sounds like starter or battery is dragging. I call Thor and they said it didnt have a battery that the house batteries started it.
Thanks ahead of time

Oooooooo... Guess I'll have to check that out if I get under it tomorrow.. Didn't make it today 'cuz the upstairs sink backed up and wouldn't clear,so now the vanity is pulled and there is a hole in the wall. The inside of the pipe is full of soap scum and rust and has been in the wall since 1939 so is being replaced. DW wants a new toilet, new floor covering and wainscoating to cover the hole where I had to get the pipe out. That's gonna cut into my repair time on the MH and tomorow PM is the Washington Association of Beer Lovers,WABL,Bremerton Brewfest with 60 craft breweries from around the state of Washington there.

My generator seems to eat starters also. I am on my 3rd starter in 4 years. I need to learn how to change it myself as I am going broke paying somebody else to do it!

Genset box has a access door directly under the starter, unless it got covered up when installed.

You say you replaced your starter in your 75D did you have to take the generator out of the RV. I talked to a service Guy and he said it Would have to come out.

Starter needs a clean surface where it indexes the block to complete a good ground connection.

I had to replace the starter on my 75D also because it NEVER really turned over well and finally refused totally. Like PandK said, it is a royal pain to get to one of the bolts, but it is doable. Now works great!

Similar sounding problem with my 75D a few years ago. Replacing the starter cured the problem. Two issues though - the starter was a real pain to replace (one mounting bolt is very difficult to access) and I did get a "bad" starter which was replaced under warrantee after about 6 months.
There is no separate battery for the generator. Starts using house batteries.

Should add that I bought the first replacement starter online but then found a local starter/generator repair shop that supplied the same starter at a lower price with no shipping.

Check all of your grounds, etc. If yours is like mine, then there is a really long run of cable from the house batteries to the gennie. I had problems with the starter on mine as the bendix was freezing to the starter and I went thru FIVE starters before they got one that worked right. In other words started every time it was s'posed too. Now, a little over a year later and it's right back to doing what it was doing before, turning slowly and finally stopping.Sometimes the switch won't shutoff and the hour meter keeps ticking. Did replace the light, the gennie switch and the battery crossover switches to no avail. Of course,it did that when the guy was inspecting the MH for an aftermarket warranty and they won't cover the gennie till I send them an invoice saying it was repaired and working right.
I do have one of those B&D 25amp chargers with the 75 amp boost and I did try it with that, but it turned out that the house batteries were bad and that didn't work.Durn those things are expensive when you have to replace all four 6v. Tomorrow,I'm going to crawl under with the charger and disconnect the cables and see if the 25 or 75 amp will start it directly.

Most run off the chassis or house battery. Just make sure they are full of water. check voltage on each set when not hooked up to electrical power. The plug into the power pole. Check batteries again. Compare reading. If higher then the battery are getting charge if no difference then check out the on board charger. Post back
