Hope you're not looking for a straight forward answer. If so then replace with the exact same unit and save the pain. Many of the 5.5 Generacs out there are much smaller than an Onan same size replacement and you'll never get it in there.
The Champion's and such of the Chinese variety make for a cheap replacement, but with limitations and possibly some modifications.
They require a lot of clearance, for air circulation, but some have mounted fans in an ingenious manner as to overcome this. Then there's the exhaust and fuel delivery problem if not fuel pump equipped and with the gravity fed, built in fuel tank itself for filling in some cases.
The super easy way, is for mounting a hitch haul rack on the back, especially if you're not towing and setting one of these on there and you're done, except for locking it down. Click here:
