Great, Average or Poor deal

Can I have some feedback on the valuation of this Newmar please. I have poked around online and it seems in its price spread. There is also a TOAD there that could be part of the deal but lets just focus on the coach please as I don't think it will be something I want.

2009 Newmar Dutch Star 4386

To ad...I have heard all good about Newmar...I realize this is an entry level trim level, is it wise advice to consider this one?

Oh yeah, and of course, once you buy, either you'll find the identical unit for a lower price or everyone will tell you that you paid too much:B

Yep! Chris is correct! Happens all the time! :B
Good luck! Keep us posted on how everything progresses!

Hahaha...oh more than likely there will be some bubble bursting amazing deal just down the road from me as soon as I drive away with it! I won't stress though as I am flying down to inspect and have a tech take a look at a few things. If all checks out then I will just go ahead with things. I mean it is a relatively decent deal with the toad all included. The gent that owns it has every piece of paper and record for both vehicles. He is an engineer and may even top my A.D.D. its comforting! lol

Anyhow, I will let you know how it goes one way or another.

Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I think the the gent selling it (Robert), due to his listing may seem to be more desperate than he is. Robert is well versed in selling things on eBay and so he understands that more ads means greater chance a search engine like google will recognize his ad and put it in the top of a search. The package is a fair deal not a steal but with that said both coach and toad seem in really good shape and I believe there is value in well maintained low usage machines.

With that said, I have been in negotiation with Robert and have agreed on a price. Certainly this is contingent on viewing, inspection background check, title clearance etc...

Wish me luck!

Just curious...what do you mean by entry level trim?

Guess I should be more careful with my choice of words. What I was trying to express and failed at was that IMO the Dutch star could be considered a standard type trim level unlike a Mountain Aire that could be considered a luxury trim. Not saying this in a derogatory fashion btw. We prefer the Dutch Star trim type.

In 2009, the Ventana was Newmar's entry level. The Dutch Star was a healthy level up.

----To ad...I have heard all good about Newmar...I realize this is an entry level trim level, is it wise advice to consider this one? -----

Stephen;
Just as someone stated, the Dutch Star is not the entry level (I believe it is the Kountry Star that is entry level in DPs).

I looked at both models previously and the dealer and I stayed about 2K apart on a Kountry Star - I just felt it wasn't worth the extra. Smaller engine, lower level finishes, less towing capacity, no WD etc.

However, less than a year later I bought my 2003 DSDP from him at what I considered an excellent price (offered cash!). Much better finish inside, 10K towing, WD installed, full body paint etc.

Also Newmar only builds to specification on confirmed orders (no mass production) and they allow a lot of customization, so two same model DSDP from the same year may have a lot of different features that add value.

As to the one you've listed, I think the price is on the high end of the scale.

I also asked of dozens of opinions on various MHs when I was buying and upgrading - there's lots of good advice so far.

Half the fun in buying a MH is the search for the perfect one (and then maybe for the real perfect one after that!)

I did not catch the 'only 2 air units' and that they are 13.5 btu's. I would say it is definitely not enough just from our experience. Our previous 42 ft. coach had three 15.0 btu units and they could handle very hot days and I couldn't imagine having less in that coach which was a step up from a Dutch Star (Monaco Dynasty).

We now have four 13.5 btu units. It's not that we need all four going, but if one were to quit working, I still have three.

In our new coach design, the venting is perfectly designed so that the maximum efficiency can utilize a 13.5 unit vs. a 15.0 btu unit. 13.5 btu units have a lower profile and are quieter.

If a third unit could be added to the Dutch Star, then I would put it back into the running.

The DS is a nice coach, and not what would be called an "entry level" rig. However, many of what are listed as options are standard on similar rigs from other manufacturers. As mentioned, there was nothing in the ad about maintenance, a very key issue with a used coach.
