Hard baseball sized "bump" outside RV

Have a 2018 Winnebago Intent 26M, purchased Aug 31, 2018. We've only used it a couple of times. It has spent almost a total of 2 months "waiting" or getting warranty work done. An area near the tailgate pkg has a place about baseball size, that protrudes from the camper. the local Winnebago dealer and service center looked at it and said they couldn't fix it...didn't really know what was causing it. I am afraid it is delamination! I recently contacted the factory and sent pictures to them. They want my service tech to call THEIR tech for guidelines on repair. I am not wild about this. I think I need to keep their nose to the grindstone and get more than a patch job. If it is delamination I don't want to keep the unit but want them to replace it with a new RV. Repairing this one from delamination will lower its value.

lemon laws----The "3 repair" supposed rule.
The Manufacturer does usually get 3 attempts at repair. BUT---It must be the SAME repair, not 3 total attempts on the vehicle on all items. That is why it is important when you take a Vehicle in for repair, YOU do not state what you think the problem is, you just state the Transmission does not shift right or the engine has hesitation. You let the Dealership find the problem and IF the exact same component fails more than 3 times, the Lemon Law will take hold if you want it to. Doug

The lemon law in Florida does not apply to the "house", it's only applicable to the chassis components and a few other things such as windshield and driver and passenger windows. Pretty much everything else like delamination, AC leaks, electric issues, furnace, refrig, etc. are not covered. The OP's issues would fall into that category.

After many promises and trips for service I finally got the body of the Intent repaired. Service center body shop fixed it. Not delamination but appeared to be where someone tried to repair something originally messed up. Now it looks perfect but I will keep an eye on it.

Took a list to RV World for warranty repairs which included a leaking AC unit, tailgate ref that didn't work, missing hood supports, etc. When we got it back the items were either ordered or not repaired. We were lucky as a Winnebago rep was there! He listened to our complaints and said things would be repaired including the "bump" in the body. Said he would bring a tech from Winnebago if he had to. I plan to stay on this to make sure it is completed.:)

Wrong answer. You have a lot of money at stake. A trip to Iowa would be the smartest thing you could do. If you can’t get away, maybe you could find someone to drive it there for you.

It may not be a delamination especially because your MH is new. To check for delamination coin tap the area around the bump then tap the bump, if it is delaminated you will hear a thud noise and more of a sharper ring to the surrounding area that has a good bond. How much does the bump stick out from the surface of the sidewall? It could be an area where resin pooled during the bonding process if it was there when you bought the MH. Also check to see if there is something attached to that area inside the MH with a screw or other type of fastener that maybe too long and may have pushed the outer skin out. Let us know what you find.

Still have the bulge in our Intent 26M. (live in SW FL so factory trip is out of the question.) There have been numerous repair issues with this Intent...water leaks around entry door window, AC leaks water into the galley, tailgate ref doesn't cool, defrost covers cracked, leveling jacks slowly extend by themselves, hood supports have fallen off, bk up light out, intermittent wipers won't work, slide silicon smears across slides when opening and pulls/sticks to rubber seal, wall gap between bathroom and bedroom, etc etc. The workmanship we expected from Winnebago is not present. On a more positive note, we are pleased with the engine performance.

Why are you not taking it back to Winnabago factor, to have it repaired proper?

Did you ever get this issue resolved to your satisfaction?

Thanks for all help and suggestions. The "tailgate" part is on the side of the RV and not on the rear of the unit. Presently our local service tech is in the process of calling the tech in Forest City for advice. This is the 2nd time we have taken the unit in for this bulging issue. Oh, the joy of RV ownership...:-)

If you want it fixed you need an RV size Body Shop. I know of two of them. I DO NOT recommend Camping world as they employ a bunch of young Kids. I know one man who works out of his garage (if that is he's still alive) who's good too but he is in metro Detroit. (not in Detroit any more but the township next door).

But I'd look for an independent body shop

Else. others have suggested self repair methods.

Could you heat the area with a hair dryer, inject some epoxy through a small pin hole then apply extended pressure till the epoxy sets?

Bubble like the OP has is NOT always caused by water intrusion on a NEW unit. It is just a defect in the filon and the adhesive. We see this numerous times each year on trailers and motorhomes. The fix is simple for a Body specialist. You cut out or grind out the affected area, Once that is done you will know if there is water intrusion. You then fill the cavity in with fiberglass and sand and then paint blending it in with the surrounding area. Winne will pay for this. Getting a new motorhome for this type problem? NEVER. The warranty states that The OEM is allowed to repair or replace items that are determined to be defective. Doug
