heat pump question

im trying to use my heat pump while im plugged into 110v.i set the thermostat to electric heat and it comes on but the propane heater also comes on.i have two zones and both act the same i dont remember both coming on together but havent used much.it is abut 65 deg out,is this operating normal or should i be able to use the heat pump by itself?

I find this automatic running of the gas furnace annoying. I hacked the thermostat with a switch to disable it.

Mine work independently of each other when the fan setting is on auto. If fan is on high or low the furnace and air conditioner fan will run at the same time.

I suggest you make sure you are in an auto setting.

My heart pump runs or furnace runs, but not both on auto.

With mine, if I set the temp 5 or more degrees above the current temp, both come on. 4 or less degrees and only the heat pump comes on.
