Help With Collision Repair

Hello, we were on I695 in MD near exit 9 at 6 last night and our RV was hit by a car. Damage to the rv's front cowl. Not very drivable. We went to an RV collision repair shop in Beltsville, MD by the name of Queens Town RV.
I have never had this happen before and am looking for some advice. They will need it for 6 weeks while we are back home 400 miles away. That is not a problem. Most thankfully no one was hurt in the RV and in the other car. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Wherever you decide to have the work done close the motorhome down like you are putting it away for winter (i.e., remove all the food.) Don't count on them providing power to charge batteries or cool the refrigerator. Turn off house and chassis batteries if you can. With a 12 week time line you may consider winterizing the potable water system and drain the black and gray tanks.

A lot depends on who was at fault for the accident. If it was the automobile, you have a little more power to negotiate. If it was the OP's fault, his options are limited.

Most insurance policies have a clause that they tow to nearest repair facility. While you may negotiate another shop I suggest a demand for a 400 mile tow would be difficult to achieve.

You state 400 miles from home..there is a place in NJ called RISCO RV and I've seen his work...which is quite good and the place does know what they are doing....If you are anywhere near Atlantic Highlands NJ I'd try to get it there...I also know a place in NC but that's not going to help you...If it is barely driveable, then it could be better in the long run to go with them. So sorry about this issue for you but at least people are OK.

Our insurance provides for a rental car if you do not have a frog. I would take valuables, clothes, dump the food or give it away, and you have to trust the repair facility.

Before leaving meet with your insurance company and the shop to have clear understanding of what is being repaired and how. For example are they going to replace the front cap or repair it. As best you can get a firm repair schedule.

If you do not like this option ask how much to make road worthy so you can at least drive it back home. Make sure you get a ft. end alignment. That is what we did and went from SC to NM

We bought our coach from Queenstown RV when they used to sell RVs. They are a part of College Park Collision which is a huge Geico collision center and they also own College Park Honda and Hyundai. They will fix your coach. However it is possible it will take 12 weeks instead of 6 weeks depending on parts, they are a super busy place. If not driveable, I would probably just leave it with them. If driveable, drive it back to hometown for repair.

If it was mine I would drive as fast as possible on back road to home 400 miles away and get it repaired where 1) you know the mechanic, 2) you can keep it on track, 3) if problems arise you are closer to the repair shop.

did you notify your insurance company? did you make a police report?

Great that no one was hurt but I would try to make sure that you have someone to nag the repair facility so that it keeps on schedule and repairs your coach within 6 weeks. I am very surprised that they were able to give you a 6 week time frame within 24 hours.
Some places have a habit of sitting on a project like yours knowing that you can't take it anywhere else. Make sure that you nag the insurance company as well to get your coach back, especially if it was the other driver's fault.
