How Long Before You "Upgraded"

OK, this is a general and fun question. We were at a rally a few weeks back, (we are Noobs BTW - had our 33 ft National since April) and got to chatting about upgrading. We are already looking at possibly getting a larger MH, and a few couples mentioned they had their first MH any where from 6 months to 2 years before they upgraded, and laughed at us in fun because we were already thinking about it. So the question - how many of you bought a MH, got "hooked", and upgraded fairly quickly? I'm just curious based on the previous discussions, but I do find it interesting.

Early on, I had read about people changing out coaches really fast. We had firends that bought 3 coaches in one year! Well, I didn't want to do that as they lost a ton of money on each trade. I had also heard about buying your last motorhome first. I had read about motorhomes for 7 yrs. before we actually made a purchase.

We weren't ready so I had plenty of time to read everything that I could get my hands on. Renting before purchase gave us a good idea of what would work for us as we rented one each year for 3 years.

So, in 2007, we ordered our new 2008 Monaco Dynasty, 42 ft., 4 slides. I felt we made a good purchase as it fit us perfectly for our first coach. Then, in 2014, I wanted to upgrade to possibly to our last coach, a Prevost.

As y'all may know, it's a commitment price-wise but we wanted a top-of-the-line coach. We are approaching our 4th birthday and 46,000 miles. It is a solid coach. The quality and top of the line finishes are amazing.

I don't regret the purchase and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm not sure which direction we will go as I might want to go to a class B in our mature years. Every size coach has it's time and place. 😄

Started with a 40 foot DP. Kept it ten years then traded it for a 45 which we've had for nearly 6 years. Would have kept the first one longer except it had a delamination problem that we didn’t want to deal with.

I am on number 5 in 20 years. I’ve had number 5 for 10 years and have not seen one I like better so have no intention of “upgrading” again. Get the last one first and you’ll save lots of money.

Kept the first one 1 year. Great unit, wanted more room.

Kept the second one 1 year. The motorhome from hell. Had it been the first one there never would have been a second.

Kept the third one 3 years. Our first new one, finally got a slide, I swear it cost less to own this new one than all the $$$ we put into the money pit before it.

Kept the forth one 6 years. Our first diesel pusher. When they say "do NOT drive a diesel pusher unless you're ready to sign the papers", believe it!

Currently on the 5th one, we've had it for 11 years so far and we have no plans to trade anytime in the near or distant future. Wifey thought I should at least try Comfort Drive, she was 100% right. It's a game changer, enough so we stopped looking at new stuff, and haven't started looking again.

Went straight to a 40' DP, didn't waste any money or time on the in-betweens.

We leave the DP stateside and later bought a 26' TT which is more practical for use at home in Alaska.

Two year to get from gasser to diesel pusher

I remember going from a 40 to a 36 and thought I was in a tent! Had one for 20 years that we really liked and although its long gone I have never had another that fit so well.

If you upgrade too fast it would look like you bought the wrong one the first time.

Remember, upgrading can mean going from a 45' Prevost to a Pop Up towable.
You don't have to go bigger and more expensive to upgrade.
