How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mopar Madness Manifest in the flesh,

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

Nope Trish, no way I'd paint mine flat black. It gets hot enough in there being silver and white! :0

Found myself a little "accessory" for my Tioga on the same CL, just under a different heading..... 27yo brunette model seeking marrige-minded 35-55yo single man... :B You KNOW I could make her happy in a 1973 apple green RV! What's Beverly Hills got that Milwaukee doesn't?! :B :B :B
She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!

Tell me you didn't paint 3/4 of your sides flat black "just cause."
Although I love flat black... "suede" they call it now. I painted my Ford truck flat black, amazing, I actually managed to get the drivers door a faded grey.

Tell you what, 75AC, I fly to CA, it'll be your Clipper I drive home.

For a fact, everyone here has been beyond helpful.
Plus we have lava lamps.

Thank you, PW79 and Master BD,for all the tips you gave me.
I would have been way behind the game without them.

And Thank you toooo !

I think that we can ALL offer insights and opinions on this or that that can help out most anyone.

Our "Dodge Crew" here is small enough - we should do all we can to help each other.

Sorry Eric, I only got pics of the engine bay for you. My computer cord was "hacked" in half by the little beast in the pic. The beast taking the picture ran the batteries down in the digital camara so i didn't have it sunday to pull the front tire. that will have to wait till next weekend. As you can see we have "two" new camping buddies. this is one of them giving me the tongue as he is confronted for chewing my computer chord in half. Sorry about the carb man!

I was at that concert, Pittsburgh Civic Arena.
Man, did I get grounded for that....

allpar is great. Thanks, Leeannn.

I talked to my buddy (Bob of course, I have learned to make vehicular judgments based on his expertise) about the 400.
He told me "No" then told me about the 2 external balancers and cast crank.

Oww. Cast crank = bad, why Lincoln and Mercury used forged ones in their Flatheads. And no, Ford and Merc Flatties are NOT the same.

I've still got my fiberoptic lamps! Again, who's got the Boones Farm? :B Oh yeah, I remember now, and who's got the Newports? Living on the edge in those days!

Nothing wrong a 400 engine. It's not as torquey as the RB engines as RB's had slightly more stroke to them. The B engines had slightly shorter stroke amking them a good choice for performance (faster revving, but the powerband is slightly higher).

From allpar.com:

The 400 engine was introduced in 1972 in standard and high performance versions. The 400, a โ€œBโ€ type engine, is a large (4.34) bore version of the 383B engine.

In 1978, the 360 and 400-cubic-inch V-8 engines gained dual concentric throttle return springs in addition to a torsion throttle spring. Exhaust-valve seats were induction-hardened on all engines to allow satisfactory use of lead-free fuels. In the hardening process, seats reach a temperature of 1700ยฐF and are then allowed to air-cool. This hardened the valve seat surfaces to a depth of .05" to .08" which gives them greater resistance to wear than unhardened seats. The exhaust-valve stems were chrome-plated for increased resistance to wear.

The heat valve in the right exhaust manifold diverts hot gases to the floor of the intake manifold which helps to vaporize the fuel mixture when the engine is cold. This results in faster warm-up and improves driveability after a cold start. During warm-up, a thermostatic spring allows the heat valve to open to the exhaust pipe-so gas flow through the intake manifold crossover passage is decreased.

All 1978 Chrysler V-8 and 6-cylinder engines have an adaptor to receive a magnetic probe for timing the ignition magnetically. The adaptor is a little steel sleeve attached to the bracket that has the traditional timing marks-you can still set the ignition with a timing light. However, ignition timing was set magnetically on all engines at the factory for accuracy. The magnetic timing adaptor will also help those who have the equipment to time Lean-Burn engines magnetically.

The performance aspects of the 'B' and 'RB' engines faded from 1972 on until the last 'B-RB' engine was produced in August 1978, ending the history of Chrysler Corporation big-block engines.

Dodge made a 400 for a couple years. Tell me about it.
Especially since I got the Torqueflite info wrong....

Got a disco ball leftover from some party I don't quite remember.
The Daughter wants to hang it up on the awning (what awning!? I haven't bought the motorhome yet!) instead of camping lights.

We've got a bulb around home somewhere.....and a lava lamp, too :B

Besides checking the tranny fluid for the, ahem, bad smell, check it for metal bits. Just in case...
