How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mopar Madness Manifest in the flesh,

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

Info on the Torqueflite

No, really the best way is to make a huge mess. Just have a large, large drain pan, one that can hold at least 7 qts, under the pan.

Before you reinstall the pan, hopefully with the Mopar 727 rubber gasket (it's much better), install a drain plug kit (NAPA has 'em, I think). You'll never make a mess again. They're wonderful.

I fill through the dipstick hole with a funnel. I think that's the only way, to be honest.

We installed a Transgo TF-2 shift kit in ours when we rebuilt it (turns out we just needed to replace the torque converter instead of a full rebuild, but oh well) and love it. Firmer, better shifts with much less overlap so it'll wear longer than stock.

Does anyone have a link to a good writeup on changing tranny oil and adjusting bands in a 78 Dodge with 440? Is there an easy way to get excess fluid out so you don't make an absolute mess? Do I just fill it through the dipstick, or is there a fill hole?

Thanks.

^ exactly what ChiNook said.

Do NOT mix Dexron III and ATF+4. They are not compatible in any way. Your rig was designed for Dexron. About the mid-80s, Chrysler switched to ATF.

What you,ve heard about not putting dextron fuild in dodges is correct but only for the late model overdrive transmissions.
Dexron will work just fine in the older 3 speed trans and was the recommended fuild back then. You could run the atf4 in it as well but i wouldn,t mix the 2 types together .

Changing it is fairly easy but can be messy if your not careful since they didn,t come with drain plugs in the pan.

You sould also check to see if your torque convertor has a drain plug ( most of the old ones did ) and drain that to as well as adjust both bands . Kind of to much to type out step by step right now but it,s all pretty easy if your handy .

Just a few questions. I need to top up the transmission fluid on my 78 Dodge Sportsman Beaver. The manual says to sure Dexron. I have Dexron +3 for Chrysler vehicles. Searching online, I find that Dexron's are compatible. The higher the number, the more recently the formula has been updated. So it seems I can use Dexron +3 in my rig, however I am finding alot of people saying to keep Dexron outta Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicle trannies and use ATF4 instead. Does it matter if ATF4 and Dexron are mixed, since I am not sure what's in there to start.

So, my questions are:
1) ATF fluid can I use or do I need?
2) Does it matter if I mix ATF4 and Dexron?
3) How does one change the fluid, since I may just change it out myself.

Thanks,

Jeff

Huh. I'd rather have a working generator than 2 kidneys.
Plus, I'd drink much less coffee.

If you put the pic's on the ceiling aerosol style, that's called
"doing a Sistine"- as in Michaelangelo's mindboggling Vatican ceiling!
It takes consummate skill! I've only done it once- while I was living in a mobile home.

I'd rather see you keep your organs... I mean, I'm an organ donor, and an organist, that's enough dedication for one mere mortal like myselph... but if I were to donate a specific organ, I'd be torn between two replies:

#1 Donate my body to science- scare the bejesus out of a bunch of med students when they hear that what they are doing for extracurricular activities will make them end up just like me... smell, bloat and all...

#2 Donate my colon. Second only to my heart, it is the most active organ in my body. My bladder comes in a respectable third. My brain?
Grab a popsicle stick, have at it- instant brain salad. No life there.
Just keepin' my head sufficiently plump to wear a baseball cap.

I couldn't resist...

Mark, I spent forever searching for mine and was lucky to get 6 (with Michelins) for $2000.
There are custom wheel places to avoid.

Trish,

One piece 17.5's with 8R17.5 tires? That's the correct size to look for? Yeah, if you got yours with Michelins for $2000, I'd say that
was noting short of amazing. I'd long since forgot the joys of Budd rims... and how many times I've changed tires and worked around them, without a safety cage (and that's only marginal protection if it decides to let go...).

That's one factor to add in, if I wind up going for this 1966 Travco.
Thank you for watching out for me. I get a feeling it's not over yet-
I may ask some more things...

Uhm, no, because that link went away with the Mac that's at Greg's.
I'm not sure who Greg is, other than Dan knows him.

Send it to me again, please.
