how to clean gray/black spots from roof?

I have a '02 Newmar with a rubber (Brite tec ) roof. I have been parked for a couple of months in a wooded cg, resulting in gray/black spots staining the roof. I have used spic and span in the past for general cleaning, but it's not effective for these extensive stains.

I think I've read or heard that soft scrub with bleach can be used? If not, what product can be used on these mold stains?

Thanks

Here is a chart that lists chemical compatibility with EPDM roofs. Be certain it is EPDM and not TPO, because the list of compatible chemicals changes in surprising ways from one to the other. Little things you don't think about...like putty tape being ok on fiberglass and TPO, but not on EPDM.

I have used white vinegar and water (50/50 solution) to remove stains from our rubber roof.

I used to send my son on the roof with a bar of lava soap inside an old sock - an hour or so later I had clean semi new looking roof.

Used sparingly, the X-14 Mildew remover works wonders. It is a really strong cleaning agent specifically formulated for mildew. Several years ago, I bought a used boat that had been in storage for a while. All of the rub-rails were severally mildewed. X-14 was recommended...so I bought a bottle. Almost instantly, the black mildew disappeared. BUT... it is a bleach product, so beware.

X2 on the murphy's. When I had a fifth wheel with a rubber roof I used a 50/50 solution of Murphy's and Spic n Span. Though in truth the dark stains didn't hurt anything and nobody could see them so I didn't worry too much about them.

My understanding is that bleach should be avoided due to the damage it does to the rubber roof itself. I use Murphy's Soap for general cleaning and rubber roof cleaner from Camping World for the tougher spots.
