How To Remove The Generator On My Damon Daybreak

I have a 2004 Damon Daybreak that is fitted with a Generac Primepact 50 generator. The starter motor needs replacing and for the life of me I can not see how the generator is removed as the starter is on the backside. I can not see that it drops down as the main exhaust pipe from the engine is in the way as well as the generator exhaust. Has anyone had any experience with this type of situation ?

Thanks

I would just pull it out to service it. Everything would be available to get to/ replace. Some of these are installed to use and not service. Had a 02 mountain aire and had it in for service and changing of the oil was part of the service. Paid the bill and took it home. Not to long after the generator would start and shut down. Low oil was the problem. I went to change the oil and would you believe it??? There was no way they could have changed the oil. The support brackets were directly below the oil drain plug. I had to remove it to drain the oil and replace it. I modified the support bracket to allow changing the oil in the future. Sometimes you have to just wonder what were they thinking OR NOT. Good luck in your issue. Larry

That was exactly what I was thinking of doing but through the floor of the coach. I can roll the carpet back cut through the floor and the top of the cabinet and then make a plywood trap door for future problems. Doing it from the backside of the cabinet means working in tight confines and really would be difficult. Just wish someone else on here has had a similar problem to mine and can throw some light on it.

Can you get to the back side of the generator box and cut a hole out and then make a removable cover?

Thanks for the link Don. In reality it depends on Damon's build method. I can see the 4 hold down bolts from underneath and of course the front two are visible with their rubber movement blocks. Right now considering whether to go through the floor of the coach to attack it from the top.

My GENERAC 5.0 had to be removed a couple years ago. Disconnect everything and use a fork truck. Oil everywhere, the crankshaft seal blew out.

andrewr.....I found this website and read through the installation instructions. They only talk about four bolts that go through the frame and floor of the cabinet. These four bolts hold it in.

Mine comes out the front. I have to disconnect everything from the genset then remove the grill and a few parts behind it. It can then come out the front of the m/h. This is a diesel pusher and the genset sits where a gasser's engine would be.

Hi Don

I am completely baffled as to how it is supposed to be worked on. I looked to see if it could be tipped forward but no sign of that being a possibility. The starter can not be accessed from under the coach as the generator is inside a metal cabinet so no access from the back/underneath. It is almost like the generator was put in through the chassis from above before the superstructure was built.

I'm not going to be much help as I've only worked on a few Generac's years ago. If they're like an Onan, they're designed to tip down for service. Even if the exhaust is in the way, can it be tipped enough to access the starter.
