I-65 from Birmingham to Montgomery???

Our next trip requires us to travel I65 south from Birmingham to Montgomery. Our travel partners refuse to take this stretch because they say it will beat up your RV. Anybody have any issues traveling this stretch. We have a 2005 Winnebago Adventurer. They want to travel back roads but sometimes those can be worse.

Your profile says FL. You are so spoiled! Your roads are fantastic and we remark about them at least once a week when we snowbird down there. Don't come to MI...you will lose any loose tooth fillings you have on our roads!

Traveled this section to Chattanooga this year too and nope, it has not yet been fixed! Still very bad.

It movd the washer out of position and loosened the screws in the shower and tossed things about in the cabinets. Tightened a bunch of screws elsewhere probably attributed to it too.

We've also been thru that area and didn't notice anything bad about I-65. We got off about half way to Montgomery and all was fine as far as we went.

I made that trip 3 weeks ago and nothing stuck out as being particulary rough in fact that part of the trip did not even elicit a complaint from my wife and she will let you know when the road is rough! It is not a particularly scenic trip but then neither are the backroads in that country.

Do you really have to travel together? Why not each going your own way and meet up at the campground? This is why we never travel with anyone else. ๐Ÿ™‚

I travel that road every April & October from Michigan to Florida.
Have been on roads that are a lot worse.
Best: Get in, Set down buckle up Hang on shut up and ride.
In Michigan we have problems staying on the seat.
Try the interstates in Arizona, New Mexico ruts so deep you get in them and have a problem getting out. Good Luck and enjoy the scenery.

I run that road twice a year and in general terms it's in good shape. the sections thru Birmingham are no worse than any other stretch of interstate thru a city and the last couple of trips thru there Alabama DOT has been working on it. maybe your travel partners are running a higher pressure than is needed in their tires. higher pressure = harder ride.

is your destination Montgomery?

We live fulltime in a 43 foot tag axle Class A. We have done that stretch three times this hear already and I can tell you that it is FAR better than most roads we have traveled so far this year. As a matter of fact, when I read your post I actually started to laugh! Tell your friends they may not want to travel to MI, OH or PA ever, as the roads there are 10 times worse than the stretch in question! You will have no problems at all.

Welcome to the forum.

To answer your question: Nope! We travel that stretch of I-65 pretty regularly with and without our 5'er. That stretch isn't any worse than a lot of others we travel. Tell your travel partners to saddle up and hang on with the rest of the big boys. There are some sections of I-65 around BHM that can get a bit rough but nothing so bad that I'd take the time to go around'em. Back roads can be fun though if yer not in a hurry.

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
