Insurance in Washington State

I can't speak Nationwide, but Connie Thompson, KOMO News 4 (ABC) Seattle, Washington State said that she (Connie) did a investigation using information from the Washington State Insurance Commissioner and the Washington State Attorney General Office and the three worst insurance companies dealing with claim payouts were #1 Allstate, #2 Farmers and #3 American Family Insurance! Connie's report was on TV several days ago. I'm not telling anyone not to buy from these insurance companies just passing on information so you can make a wise decision in the future!

If we're talking about this Komo story, about the ONLY thing you got right is that Connie Thompson "did a report".

Aside from a fellow who was entirely satisfied with the way a claim had been handled (by Liberty Mutual), the show/report were entirely based on a Consumer Reports survey/article. Connie Thompson makes no mention at all of the "three worst insurance companies", nor does she cite participation/input from any State officials.

She does name the three companies that came in FIRST per customer satisfaction: Amica, USAA, and Auto-Owners.

When I moved from California to Washington state I was amazed how much cheaper insurance is here. I have my car, motorhome, and house with Mutual of Enumclaw. It's about 40% less than what i was paying. A couple of months ago I got a crack from a rock hit in the MH windshield. I thought "this $2,000 claim is going to raise my rates," but it didn't, the rate actually dropped a couple of dollars a month.

As a 30 year insurance agent (just retired) and a JD Powers top rated agent for over a decade, it's all a game.
But, JD Powers does weed out the idiots, that's about all they do.

I never put much faith in insurance information quoted in RV forums, unless it is quoting info from one, or more, of three different sources - a State Insurance Commissioner or Department, a state Attorney General Office, or JD Power Insurance ratings. When it involves these sources, you can usually bank on it. Good catch!!!
