Insurance my 2002 Monaco has gone up again. This year it's $900 through State Farm. I've been with SF for about 45 years and I get discounts due to having homeowners and two other vehicles insured by them.

I went online and got several quotes from 4 or so other insurers and wasn't able to save any money to speak of.

I've heard some companies will allow you to suspend your collision coverage when it's parked at home and can be reactivated whenever your are using it. Anyone heard of this and is so, can you elaborate on it a little.

Thanks

State Farm, along with a few other insurance companies, is advertising now that they will be giving rebates/discounts because of COVID. You might check to see if you are eligible for some money back.

Thanks guys. I'll check with my agent. I know the liability coverage portion is about 1/2 of the annual costs of my policy.

State Farm allows for the reduction in coverage when you are not using your motorhome as long as you don't have a loan on it. If you have a loan, then permission is needed from the lienholder. It was that way the entire 39 years I worked for them, so unless it's recently changed, your agent should be able to do that for you. And, if you don't use it for several months, it will save you quite a bit.

State Farm will allow you to reduce coverage while in storage or for no particular reason. Just don't cancel the entire policy because it takes them a lot of legwork to get it back through underwriting.

Essentially, it is an automobile policy and you could just keep comprehensive coverage which is used for hail, wind, theft, vandalism, and fire.

I have State Farm, but my policy is for a travel trailer which only covers comprehensive and collision.

Your motorhome policy probably includes liability, personal injury, comprehensive, collision, uninsured motorist, towing, but double check with the office that you use.

National General thru Good Sam offers storage coverage. Phone or email them to put it into our out of storage. Must be in storage a minimum of 30 days. When you put it into storage they will send a refund check then bill you when you reinstate full coverage. Worked good for me for 5 years but went thru FMCA when rates got raised. Hope this helps, Don

When you looked at other insurers did you also include your homeowners and other vehicles in the quote?
Bundling saves a lot of money.

I was with State Farm for over 30 years before I looked elsewhere. When I changed everything to Farmers about 5 years ago I saved $1400.

Just shopped again and went with Progressive and saved another $900.

I shopped around and State Farm was the cheapest for me. I think you can suspend some coverages if you are not driving the motorhome. You should ask your agent about that. You might also consider increasing your deductibles, but that means you pay more if you file a claim, unless it is someone else's fault and you can collect from them.

Suspending that part of your coverage won't save much IMO
