I've always had TT and 5th wheels. Now that I'm pushing 70, I would like the convenience of a Motor home. One reason is because I don't want to get back into a heavy duty diesel truck, since that would also be my every day drive. The nice thing about pull behinds is that the insurance is relatively cheap.
My driving record is good. I live in Pa., and I'm willing to switch to Progressive if need be. I don't full time, but do on occasion take week long trips and plan to stay in Florida for the winter without moving it from one spot for the six months. That may be a form of full-timing but not the same as driving around the country for the same six months since it will be in a private campground. The vehicle will be around $35,000 used and I would need full coverage.
If this sounds like your situation, how much do you pay for insurance a year? I'm sure mine will be different than yours given all the variables from state to state, value to value, but it will give me an idea, nonetheless.

I went through Miller Ins agency(ad in FMCA Mag) and switch from Progressive. Premium went from 1480 to $875, $1000 deductible and agreed value of $114K.

I just switched from Progressive which I had for several years to AARP The Hartford. The same coverage on my 2008 35ft Itasca was cut in half with the same coverage Now about $500 a year.

I've been getting new quotes on my insurance for the RV and my two other vehicles. I do it every year just to find out if prices are changing. I have an excellent driving record with no claims. My quotes so far for full coverage, agreed value on the RV, and with $1000 deductable, paid in one payment are:

Auto-owners insurance(my current carrier)...$1616.16/year for all three vehicles
ExecutiveRV Insurance(Coach Net insurer)....$1781.50/year for all three vehicles
21st Century (pilots rates)........$1825.00/year for all three vehicles
Progressive RV Insurance, which quoted the RV ONLY....$1659.00/year(I have no idea how much it would be to add my other two vehicles since the price for the RV alone was ridiculous).
I do have a few more companies that are sending quotes but it looks like I will be staying with my current carrier. I did not ask for any discounts based on when the vehicle is not being used since we will take off for even a long weekend from time to time.

If you use your MH more than 150 days/year for insurance purposes you are FT and it makes no difference if it sits for those 150+ days. You might be able to drop the collision portion for the time in FLa. By becoming a Fla resident you will save enough to afford a newer MH as a two year tag is $155 and no income tax. My insurance on $115K of value is $1,200.

I pay around $500/year for 100/300,000 liability (also have an umbrella policy), $500 deductible, and full glass coverage.
