Apparently as a Floridian you have no cause for alarm.

Where we are staying the manager is stuck in Canada so her friend came to "watch the resort". Everyone has left or cancelled except for two couples. We were content to have no new arrivals and we are basically self-quarantined. Now the new arrival wanted to bring her son and we said no, then this morning her daughter-in-law dropped off a baby, then the other grandmother stopped by to see the baby, and later the daughter-in-law is coming to pick up the baby. When we confronted her she said she does this every day and we aren't stopping her "and it doesn't matter anyway because Floridians can't catch the virus".

As someone posted earlier, you can't fix stupid even with duct tape.

We reached out to the manager and she says her friend will not be bringing anyone on the property. If she continues we're all leaving.

if you don't have contact with them or frequent the same spaces you should be safe. might be more dangerous to leave.

The Governor and I assume you have an internet connection to satisfy your own curiosity.
I should have added that if THEY do close the border it would not be the first time. Occasionally we do get hurricanes down here and they have closed the border before for all but essential traffic. If you got caught out of State during those times, you could not go home. It can happen altho the Gov is not willing to go that far yet. A lot depends on how this is spreading.

Of course. Closing the border is about as enforceable as a stay at home order. One of the things suggested is to block airline travel out of NY coming to FL. As I said, common sense does not seem to work with some people.

If you read the latest news you will also find out about the unintended consequences of a "stay at home" order. It appears that the people of New York do not believe in actually staying at home. This is just what we need, people traveling from infected areas and coming down to my State to bring their infection with them.
We had to close the beaches because the college kids did not have enough sense to stay away from each other. Now we have to deal with a bunch of adults that feel that they know better than the experts. Perhaps these are the parents of the college kids. Here in Wilmington NC all the areas beaches are now closed. In fact they just announced today that all short term rentals are to evacuate by Wednesday. The beaches were packed with tourists over the weekend. Apparently stay at home means take a vacation. Aside from buying up items from stores still trying to recover from the initial hording, I imagine we will see a spike in cases as a result of droves of people flocking here who decided their mini vacation was more important than the health of it's residents.

It was driven because people are not staying home. People are taking it like vacation, traveling to small towns like Ocean Shores or Chelan. These places don't have the facilities to even care for the residents of these areas. So, if you feel great but actually have the virus, then you go somewhere and get gas or stop at a store, you now possibly infected residents of that area. You go home after your vacation, camp trip, etc. But that town now has to deal with more sick people that would not have gotten sick had you stayed home in the first place. That is why they are urging everyone to stay home as much as possible. If we stop spreading the virus, maybe we can all get back to normal. Did you see as of 3/23 there are now 499 confirmed deaths? That is going up because people are not staying home.

I would also guess that a lot of people that read this RV blog are retired. If you are retired, older, have any kind of compromised immune system, stay home!!

This is a bitter pill to get down. This was a late announcement, and we wonder what has driven it. DNR, Federal forest Service land is not that crowded, especially this time of year, something about snow/mud. If you don't live in Washington, you haven't been exposed to our Governor's speeches, we really need some ADULT Super vision in our government...... Hey, if you can get out, it may not be a bad idea.

I have changed my mind , arguments against travel are compelling to me .
Why take a chance of endangering your self or others , stay home , hunker down
and survive

Lets all do our part to shut this virus down so we can all get back to RVing

^ I agree with you on the restarting of the 2 week timeline. I just avoided getting too much into the details because there are many people who are prone to panic over something they really can't control.

If I go camping and I come down with the virus I would drive home. It's a flu like virus, not a heart attack that stops you in your tracks.

As far as all business closing. You do realize that the majority of our population lives paycheck to paycheck. This two or three week shutdown is going to cause a lot of businesses to go under and people to lose their way of life as well as their lodging.

Edit: and to be clear, I and my kids are staying isolated in the house for the 14 days. It's not fun, but it's what we're doing.

The thing you have to think about is stopping the spread. If we all could stop interacting with other people for 2 or so weeks, we could stop the spread. Anyone with the virus would show signs and places that have contaminated surfaces the virus would die. So, every time you interact with someone, you start that 2 week time over. If you go somewhere and you need gas, food, etc, you start that 2 weeks over. By going camping, you think you are getting out and away, but if you have the virus and it starts to show up, what are you going to do? Call the local hospital or medical center? Now you have just opened them up to the virus. Maybe it is a small town or somewhere that can not handle your virus. Why spread it there. You need to stay home and stop interacting with people. If everyone could do this for 2-3 weeks, it would die, show itself on those effected, and we could all get back to normal. That is what our government is trying to do.

Look at Italy, they tried to contain the spread but people continued to go out to eat, they went to the store, the got together for small parties and gatherings. Now look where they are. Stop doing that! stay within your house and stop going anywhere the is not medically necessary. If all businesses would close, we would be much better off.

If I go out I would boondock. I see no more risk to me or anybody else by boondocking than if I stay home.

I already have to fill up with gas. So maybe I have to visit the gas station one more time than normal. Yes technically this is an added risk as I have to use the pump nozzle and the keypad.

I drive out and camp for a week. During this time nobody gets closer than 150 yards from me, probably more like 300 yards. (That seems safer to me).

I drive home and put everything away.

Or I can stay home and possibly have a blood clot that comes up from sitting sedentary at home.

I could have an accident while pulling the trailer

I could accidentally get electrocuted when plugging something in at home. When boondocking I'm on 12V

I could get bitten by a rattle snake.

etc...

All you can do is try to be safe and be aware of what you are touching. Probably by far the best thing you can do is wash your hands before and after touching your face. And wash your hands before you eat. And above all, try to limit going somewhere that causes another person to have to be near you. For exampl, if you need to go to the bank take out a larger amount of money in one trip vs smaller amounts and multiple trips.
