A few of us are heading to Key West in July. any suggestions on campgrounds. Have been told by a few friends to maybe stay in Marathon and not take the rigs all the way down to Key West and just use a car from Marathon. Any ideas?

We called Bluewater on telephone number listed in the Good Sam Directory. 305 745-2494.
We got a good deal! Could not have been happier.
The website is listed as Bluewaterkey.com

uh, are you sure about www.bluewater.net :h? Bluewater.net looks like an I.T. Services company. Bluewater.com link seems good . . .

bluewaterkey.net and bluewaterkey.com

There is a difference between the two and I have heard that the rates are different for some sites.

We have stayed at lazy lakes, its right by Bluewater. It was nice and small..but 14 miles from Key West. Last time we went we stayed at Boyds very nice but a little jammed in. Its in a great location we rode our bikes downtown and avoided traffic...We went the week after Christmas so it was prime time.

A day trip to Key West from Marathon is no problem. It all depends on your budget. Staying closer to Key West is mega $. Get a Passport America membership and you can get 50% off for 5 days at Jolly Roger and more than pay for itself.

Bluewater Key at mm14 is AWESOME and pretty convenient! One of the nicest campgrounds I have ever stayed in.

Stayed at the KOA front of the MH on the sandy beach, drove toad to town. Boating, swimming, open air bar, entertainment right at the campround.

That's a good bet also at just 20 miles and Bluewater is at least 14 from Duval st

First, there are no CG's in Key West. Stock Island is right over the bridge on the north end and has a couple with Boyd's being the most popular, close crowded and expensive. The bus does stop out front and about 20 min. to Duvall st with stops.
Blue Water Key Rv Resort is on mile marker 10 or so and the most luxurious, so also expensive, but the best bet all around and as long as you have transportation.
Less than 40 miles from Duvall st. is Sunshine Key RV and a pretty good choice for price and proximity. We've driven it many times and not all that bad for the nightly drive back, after the famous and nightly sunset festivities on the pier. This is assuming that you won't be spending too many late night hours at Sloppy Joes or other, without a designated driver.

Many, including myself, have pulled and driven big rigs right to the outskirts of Key West. I would't go into town though.

The Navy campground is at about Mile Marker 2. That is 2 miles from the end of the Overseas Highway, US 1. We have pulled our TT and driven our Class A pulling a Toad to that campground with no problems.

Prepare your route carefully. Real Estate is VALUABLE, so turn around spots are few. Likewise, gas stations are tight, so gas up on the mainland. Gas, as everything else is more expensive in the Keys.

Bad idea its 55 miles one way, what was the person thinking that told you that. Lots of things to do in Key West - I guess it would work if you only wanted to go down once.

I would look at Bluewater Key, its 14 miles from Key West - expensive but the best campground out of the 200 I have stayed at in the last 5 years

X2-it will be off season, not cheap but very nice!

You can take the bus to Key West as there is a stop right across the road from Blue Water.

we stayed at point of view campground in key largo. it was a two hour trip to key west got there at 11am . parked mh at fort zachary $7 for the day. took taxi to duval st then walked around. if you take the key west trolley you can get on and off near all attractions. it was nice to have the mh with us. also much to do in other keys like theater of the sea in islamorada.
