Last August our house was blown down by Hurricane Harvey. We had evacuated vehicles motor home and boat 60 miles south to Kingsville Texas with minimum clothes and supplies. We began a years livin in the class a MH located a block away in Palm Harbor RV park from our house All recreational vehicles that had not been evacuated were turned over, some several times. Previous years we had taken trips 4-5 times a year that amounted to about a 25 % occupancy.

Permanent live in status was very different from traveling. Each morning we wake up and the scenery had not changed. After the second month the 300 sq feet got very small. BBQ 3-4 times a week cooking outside, washing clothes at a friends house, storing stuff under the motor home etc. We even bought a small freezer stored on the ground near the rear wheel well. Hot water, anytime, was sorely missed. Back seat of my truck was dedicated to tool storage.

A lot of folks in the community have utilized rv's for temporary housing during rebuilding and the consensus is this type of full timing is stressfull. Families have to be strong starting out.

Good news is Rockport is back fully functioning and should have a great winter rv season

scenery doesn't change when living in stick house either

sounds like your 'cope-ing' but don't go full time, if one yr in 30ft is stressful

i lived 10yrs in a 23ft class A, and it was not stressful for me
my current RV is 36ft

everybodys 'personality' and emotional needs are different

some people handle compact spaces better than others
some just need more 'room' to move around and in order to NOT get 'cabin fever'
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

I lived in a 28' Southwind for 5 weeks with 2 cats 7 years ago.
I bought a new Doublewide Mobile home and was swapping out the old one for the new.
My problem was it took the IDIOTS with the county that long to approve my permits.
I custom ordered the new home and it took them 2 days to work it into the build schedule so it sat for over a month at the manufacturer while I waited.
Had to drive 10 miles to empty the black tank.
Cats spent most of their time on the dash watching the world go by.
I have too many possessions to go full time!

Wife is not much on RV's. I have been full timing in ours by myself for 2 years and love it. I took my wive to an island two years ago for our 50th anniversary, Im going back to get her on our 60th anniversary. I still have 8 more years of enjoying our RV.

Wife and I Full Timed it for about 5 years before she did a crash and die and I've been doing it 5 more since.... Of course it's a 38' A with 3 slides. but it never felt cramped to me.. At least on "on site" (On road it's a bit.. er.. compact).
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

My wife and I have been quite happy fulltiming in our 33 and later 34 foot Class A's for the past 10 years. Sometimes we move around every week or two, and sometimes we find a spot we like and stay for a month or more. We do favor state and national parks, so that does limit our stays to 10-14 days most of the time. We've never felt cramped and have everything with us we want with us. We do have a small lakeside family cottage we visit from time to time since it's near both of our daughter's homes, but even then we still live in our motorhome on the full hookup site we built there. It probably helps that we've been very happily married for 54 years and best friends longer than that. When we say we're "going home", we always mean back to the motorhome, wherever it might be at the time. To each their own of course...

Yep I have no desire to full time in any size motorhome.
Just a toy for us. After a month or so and I'm ready to get back to my house.

Drove through Rockport last winter and was amazed at how much still needed doing. Glad to hear you're ahead of it now.

So many glamorize FT'ing. As long as you're moving around it is a good lifestyle. Run out of time or money and sit in one spot for awhile, not so much.

If you need a break from the rig, they run some cheap cruises out of Galveston at times. Let somebody else do all the work for a week, and take looonnnnnnggggg showers. 🙂
There’s no fool, like an old fool.
