Michelin LTX MS2

I have looked and have seen random posts about these tires, and it seems that "everybody" has been given these in the recall that Michelin came out with or had changed over to them.

I would like to know what you all think of them.

The ride quality, handling, over all performance in your application, noise and such.

I don't want to open this up to a heated discussion on which brand is better than another or any such thing, I just want to know what people think about this particular tire and how it has or has not performed after the change.

Thanks..

Yep ... experienced it myself ... no other middle-folks involved.

My 4X4 pickup has sat parked when not in use in our backyard in the California sun for 18 years. The next to last set of tires on it for somewhere around 12 years were big old LT285 Coopers - you guessed it - no cracks in the Cooper sidewalls - what happened to that Cooper set is what should happen to tires ... their tread wore out. No blowouts or flats in them that whole time, either.

About 2 years ago I put another set of Coopers on the pickup and kindof expect the same experience going forward (UNLESS Coopers now come from Ch**a :E).

Maybe I should have put Coopers on the motorhome when I last changed out it's tires ... instead of Michelin M&S2's. :h

Repeating some of what I posted above:

Both the M&S we originally had on our 24 foot Itasca MH, and now the current M&S2 set on it have been absolutely outstanding .... except for one little thing: The M&S set wound up with cracked sidewalls in only about 5-6 years, WAY BEFORE the tread was anywhere near gone.

I'm hoping that our current M&S2 tires - with their different/new sidewall material - do not ever develop sidewall cracks. I'm assuming that fixing of this problem may have been what Michelin at least partially had in mind when going to the new sidewall material formulaion.

Note that M&S2 tires have a longer warranty than the M&S tires - 60,000 miles for the M&S and 70,000 miles for the M&S2. I also went to a new tire size when I switched to the M&S2 so that I would get a Green X rated tire for less rolling friction. The new size also provides better ground clearance and better air flow between the sidewalls to help keep heat down in the two rear dual sets.

I think most any brand tires will start seeing sidewall cracks at 5-6 years.
Some major cracks and others spiderweb cracks , but they all will eventually see signs of it.

Maybe that is why the RV that I bought from El Monte RV had those no name Trazano Tires on it. They were almost new when I purchased it, all that I could see were early 2010 except the inside duals that were a year older,I only found that out when they were taken off and replaced with the LTX MS2.

In our fleet of rentals, we have found that the LTXMS tires have been wearing about twice as fast as the tires they replaced. Probably not an issue for the occasional use private coach, but not good performance at all in the commercial fleet.

Wow Got them installed two weeks ago, couldn't get them any newer,1015!

Took them on a 400 mile trip and they performed outstandingly. No wander no wiggle, very smooth and quiet and a tad bit better mileage.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I will be getting a set of these this week.

Thanks to UNCLE for keeping MY money all year with no interest paid and returning it just in time to help with the purchase. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to give it to Michelin they seem to step up and do the right thing when there is a problem, I have received 3 safety recall notices, they must have papered everyone. One from them, one from the MFG of RV (Fleetwood)and one from El Monte RV where I bought the Unit.

Our Class C's original M&S (no "2") set of tires only had a 60,000 mile warranty, and their tread wear was very little when we got rid of them - but the sidewall cracking was not acceptable. That's why we replaced them with a new set of M&S2 Michelin tires, and the ride and handling of the M&S2 tires has been superb.

We changed sizes when we went to the M&S2 set, so we had to buy seven(7) of them for our Class C.

For what it's worth:

- Michelin's M&S2 tires carry a 70,000 mile warranty.

- The new size of Michelin's M&S2 tires we had put on are Green X rated, which means less rolling friction - which maybe means slightly better gas mileage.

- The sidewall materials used in the M&S2 are different than what were used in the M&S and I'm hoping that the reason for this was, at least partially, to reduce or eliminate the premature sidewall cracking that was present in their M&S tire.

I put a set of M/S 2's on my F-150 and put 30,000 miles on them most of that towing a 22' 5K# TT. The ride and handling was outstanding. After trading up to our 2012 Class C, on a 2011 E-350 chassis, I got the recall notice for the M/S's that it came with. The original M/S were a 20 year old design and they were seeing some tread separation issues.

The tires only had 16,000 miles and looked fine but since Michelin was buying I was happy to upgrade. Got six brand new M/S 2's ($1,500), mounted and balanced for free... one month before a 7,500 mile cross country trip. :B

The potholes back east gave them a serious workout but as with my truck the performance is awesome. There are lots of fine tires out there but not many companies would stand up like Michelin and back their products. Like they say.... There's Michelin and then there's everything else.

I just had my second set of (MS2) Michelin installed yesterday. The ride is great on my Class C diesel. The big problem is that they run out of time before they wear out. But I guess with every good thing there is a bad thing. Happy camping.

A few years back, when it was time to replace tires on my 2500HD, I bought a set of MS2 from Costco. As soon as I left Costco, truck felt like I was driving on ice. I almost turned around and had them taken off. It lasted a day or so. A year and half later I notice sidewalls had cracks, took back to Costco. They said the sidewalls weren't bad enough to replace them. Last year Michelin had a recall on the MS2 tires. It was for a tire 2 sizes smaller than I had. I called Michelin about how bad my sidewalls had gotten, (cracked all around. They told me tires were not covered under the recall and they don't warranty cracking sidewalls. They told me the tire would be covered when tire tread came apart or sidewall blew out. I removed the tires even with plenty of tread left. My safety pulling 5th wheel were worth more than those tires. I replaced them with Cooper tires. The ride is good, wear has been good (guaranteed 60,000 miles), no cracking and best of all they are stamped Made in USA.

I can only compare them to the earlier version. I purchased the M&S a few years ago. Michelin sent me a recall notice (I am glad I filled out the on line paperwork) so I was able to get in early and get a new set of tires (MS2). I had put about 2~3K miles on the M&S and had just come back from a trip to FL. I found the new set, the MS2, to ride much better. The speedometer also read closer to the speed the GPS showed. On the MS the error was - 5mph when traveling 55-60 mph. I was running the same tire pressure in each set of tires. I noticed that the tires did not take much in the way of weights from the wheel balancing - a good sign. I do not really push the RV in the corners so I can not speak in depth about handling, but turn in and road feel are about the same as the earlier set.
I am very happy with the MS2 and would likely buy a new set if again in two to three years if the tires continue to hold up as they are now. I have traveled from VA to FL 4 times as well as on trips up to NH and PA in addition to the local trips so the tires have some miles on them now.
