I carried Good Sam insurance on my motor home for several years until the rates went out of sight. I then changed to Progressive Insurance even though I hated their commercials on TV. How many here have Progressive and if so have you had a claim with them. Their rates are less one have of those with Good Sam.

been with state farm for over 40 years, had two claims on the MH and they canceled us. So much for loyalty.

Anyone use Gilbert RV insurance?
Back in San Diego in '09 I used them and they had fantastic rates. I just bought another Class A today and am looking for a new policy.
Any comments will be welcome. Thank you in advance.

Get an insurance broker...they represent several companies and shop for you. They do all legwork and get you the best deal for overall situation. For example when I got the MH, broker said let's check progressive first as they are usually the best...turns out they had gone up a lot and she was able to roll it into current company for much less.

So easy to talk to one person and have them check everywhere. Not sure if I pay more than going directly with a company but when I first switched to them the rates I got beat my best shopping.

Had Progressive in the past. The rates kept rising(one windshield replaced) and last year I changed to Hartford. I made my first and only payment in April. In June our MH was struck by lightening. Sixty miles out of Cincinnati. Long story short, I was out my deductable and a few incidentals. Hartford contributed to the expense of renting a trailer to empty MH and return home, loss of use contribution, and another contribution for me to return to Cincinnati and move MH from Cincinnati to Decatur, In. for Fleetwood repairs. (MH had to be towed to Cincinnati for Ford to repair and get the engine running.) Total cost to Hartford was over 10k. Got my renewal this year. Increase negligible. I guess that's why they call it insurance.

Shopping for rates is fine but being a agency owner selling insurance for many years I might throw a little tidbit out there.

If you stay with a company for a few years and have a claim sometimes your insurance doesn't go up much or sometimes not at all. Bounce around every year or couple of years and have a claim and your rates usually will go up a good bit or they in some cases with non-renew your policy. At the point they choose not to keep you then your shopping around with a claim on your record and the next company may charge you double on the premium.

Surprises me. Good Sam has always been one of the best rates. Have you tried just a local insurance agent and gotten any quotes? Sometimes those are the best rates.

We have our motorhome, Jeep and motorcycles with Progressive for our full-time use.

Be careful about changing insurance often. If you ever have a large claim that's your fault (or maybe even not your fault) the insurance company is going to look at see if you're worth keep as a customer. They are much more likely to keep you on and not raise your rates too high, if you've been with them a long time. But if you are a short term customer they are far more likely to cancel your policy after a big claim. And then try and see how much insurance costs after that. I was with Farmers insurance on my cars for over 30 years. Only recently did I switch to USAA, but I won't switch again. I've had Progressive on my motorhome since it was new in 2004, so I'll stick with them.

When I purchased the MH 12 years ago I checked around several insurance companies including Good Sam's but Progressive was much cheaper than any of them. Even Allstate that I have "bundled" insurance with could not compete. I have had 3 windows replaced and a rather extensive repair to the front end which included a tow to several repair facilities one was about 40 miles away from the first. Many front end parts were replaced including a tire and Steer Safe the total bill was over $5000.They covered everything minus my deductible. Progressive agents were very helpful and my rates have never gone up. Insurance rates vary by state so check around.

We had a full timers policy with Progressive for several years. One claim and it was handled quickly and fairly. When we moved to SD we switched to GS (National General now - used to be GMAC) because it was cheaper.

I have read but have not checked but the Progressive road service that comes with the RV policy is said to have a very low towing mileage allowance. If so you might need to get a standalone road service policy. That will cost a $100 per year or so from GS or another supplier.

We had Foremost Insurance Co. coverage on our coach for the past 22 years and have experienced excellent no hassle claim service from them over the years.

Based on our experience with Foremost, I can highly recommend them.

Please be aware that Good Sam Insurance Agency is an independent agency that writes with multiple carriers including National General, Progressive, Nationwide, Safeco and Foremost. If we have you placed with one carrier and your rates go up you can contact us and we can quote you with our other carriers. Mr. Mark is correct that the number of carriers writing specialized RV insurance has decreased. Overall the market is experiencing rate increases.
