We picked up a 2018 Jayco Alante last spring, and could not be happier. Put about 5,000 miles on it last season, most of that towing our Jeep Wrangler, and yes we did have a handful of minor warranty issues but they were all addressed in a single afternoon trip to the dealership. Definitely not saying they are the best or anything along those lines, but so far our experience has been very positive.

We purchased 7 years old in a brand with a better reputation for quality. I think it was the right decision for us, but I have a decent amount of experience. We also had the advantage of spending days with our coach running through every last thing.

For a novice, new, with warranty may have more value. FWIW, Winnebago has a better reputation, particularly in customer service, for about the same money as Jayco.

These crack me up.... People say it's the absolute worst thing they've ever purchased, wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy, wouldn't use for a dog house..... but still give it 3 stars ๐Ÿ™‚

From reading these boards for years you can obviously get a bad coach or trailer from any manufacturer. People often have unrealistic expectations and/or can't replace a light bulb on their own. Also, you are far more likely to hear of a bad experience than a good one.

I'm always kind of shopping coaches in case I win the lottery or for when a retire. The Precept does seem like you get a lot for your money and has caught my eye. I'm not fan of the whole "buy a few years old thing." First off, the depreciation on new coaches isn't nearly what people will lead you to believe. The ones complaining drastically overpaid so they are pissed. Also, a 2 year old coach sitting on a lot well may be loaded with problems. What do you think all the people with unrealistic expectations do once they decide RVing isn't for them?

Thanks for the info on where to look for reviews. Seems there are issues with just about all rvs. I wonder what the chances are of getting one with minimal problems?

My advice is to use your same budget money to drop back some years and for buying something more tried and proven, along with having most all of what bugs there were, all worked out, modified or upgraded.
When we last bought at 9yrs old, we could have paid a little more, for something brand new, but nowhere like what we have or even close, so no way. I'd rather have an old $500K coach, for a $100K, than a brand new one, that costs a $100K, is what I'm saying.
To put it another way, quality of engineering lasts forever but junk is junk from day one. Just IMHO of course and it's pretty obvious that it is just a matter of opinion, when looking at sales figures and for what goes out a dealer's door the quickest.
