Onan Gen coolant ??

What antifreeze do I use for my Onan generaot. I live in Ca, so no cold temps. Do I use a 50....50 mix, water and antifreeze? Thanks

Maybe their just topping off. Although the best solution is doing a Google search for the Onan generator they have. They can then save it as a PDF on there handheld pad. That's what I do for everything. Always have it when needed and wherever we are. That's what I copied and pasted from above.

I think many people just want to do it the easiest way and ask. In my opinion you then just get a bunch of answers, some right , some wrong. Owners manual never lies.

Search the IRV2 web site for this subject. Someone recently posted a video that walks you through the entire coolant change process. There is more to it than just draining the coolant and attempting to fill it through the cap next to the oil fill cap.

Refer to Table 3 for scheduled maintenance. The engine cooling system is filled with a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol anti-freeze and water when the genset leaves the factory, which is suitable for tem- peratures down to -34? F (-37? C).
Replace the coolant every two years. Use ethylene or propylene glycol anti-freeze solution that con- tains a rust and corrosion inhibitor. The anti-freeze should not contain a stop-leak additive.
The water used for engine coolant should be clean, low in minerals, and free of corrosive chemicals. Use distilled water if available. The cooling system has a 4.2 quart (4 l) capacity.

You can use a 50/50 mix. I recommend a low silica antifreeze.
