My daughter, God bless her, wants to visit Universal Studios in the middle of July....soooo, we're looking for a decent and hopefully reasonably priced campground nearby. Suggestions from those in the know....I realize it'll be hot and humid....ugh!...TIA..Dennis

Hey, at least she wants to do universal and not the whole Disney "experience"!

My girls are out of the theme park phase, thank goodness, but now the nieces are beginning to call up and suggest that they come visit with their kids and we can all go to Orlando! Here we go again.

My daughter is 36....:E:E...do they EVER grow out of it??..:h

Thanks everyone for all the advice....I'm guessing I'll be able to use all three A/Cs ! Drinking lots of water is a given, but thanks for the reminders....personally, I like the "nap in the afternoon" advice. I'm sure I'll use that more than once.......:B....Dennis

Fort Wilderness is great for a variety of reasons. The grounds are especially well suited for children and they have movies ampitheater, and you can ride the Disney boats and Monorail for free.

My vote would be Fort Wilderness. We always have a great time and tons to do. After visiting Universal Studios time/days permitting you can take the ferry right from the Fort to the Magic Kingdom or grab the Monorail to one of the other parks. We also stayed at Tropical Palms and enjoyed our stay there many years ago but IMO for a little more there is no comparison to FW. Enjoy.

I would advise strongly a campground with as much shade as possible, that July sun will give your A/C's a workout. Also that advise for resting in the afternoon is correct for another reason, thunderstorms! July is smack in the middle of our rainy season and the afternoons can be quite active with heavy rain and lightning.

Absolutely correct. Having lots of shade may make the difference between your A/C keeping the RV comfortable or not. Out in the sun it is likely the A/C will not keep up and it will be hot inside between 2 and 4 p.m.

Happy Camping.

Tropical Palms is a great CG, much cheaper than Fort Wilderness and has good amentites (nice pool, bar and grille with good food and reasonable prices).

Have stayed there twice and would stay again anytime.

17 miles north is Wekiwa Springs State Park in Apopka FL. Full hookups, shady, reasonable rates. Make reservations well in advance.
13 miles in Celebration, FL is Tropical Palms RV Resort. Don't know about prices but may be cheaper than Fort Wilderness.
There are 2 KOA's in the area. One is more pricey than the other. www.koa.com
Fort Wilderness Disney Resort is nice and convenient as jackshephard said they may have a shuttle from there to Universal Studios.
I would read reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com before making final selection. Tips for Orlando in July: go to theme parks early, come back to RV in middle of day and take a nap or sit by the pool, go back to theme parks in the evening. Be careful about drinking enough water.

Fort Wilderness seems like a great place to go and will probably be the one I pick for next year. Prices seem good for what they offer, and I believe they can shuttle you to universal.
