Possible First Class A

Well my wife and I are looking to purchase our first class a motor coach. This came about after finding a leak in our 2006 Coachman Spirit Of America that I'm currently fixing to trade in. We have looked at a lot but with a family of five kids there isn't a lot out there that will accommodate the whole family. My question is we are looking at a 2017 THOR MOTOR COACH WINDSPORT 29M. I know it says it will sleep five but with the bunk that comes down from up above the cabin, couch and dinette I think it will be good for us since our kids are so small. What are your thoughts on Thor motor coaches. Thanks for any help or suggestions of other ones we should look into. We would like to stay around 100k range.

We just recently purchased a 2016 Thor Hurricane 35C and have been very happy with it. We think it was a great value for the money. In the first few months we have uncovered a few minor issues that were covered by warranty but had great service and support from both Thor and the dealer. Thor has a pretty good support website and you can request all kinds of support documents from them (structural, plumbing, electrical and wiring diagrams, etc.)

There are other Hurricane bunk models and models with sleeper couches, etc. that may be able to meet your requirements.

As to mileage, no Class A is economical. That would not be the reason you would buy one.

Good luck and enjoy!

Yeah I understand how it is with RV's and the manufactures. We have owned a few pull behinds and they all have their issues. But with a family of 7 it gets old having to take two vehicles. I was looking at getting something like a Ford Excursion to be the pull vehicle, but we have decided to go with a motor home. I just don't want to spend 100k and realize the RV is full of issues. I would like to stay well under that but I'm kinda leery about buying used since I have had bad luck with used TT in the past even after having them inspected. The one we have now has been great until this new water leak..LOL

Buy a slightly used one about 3 to 5 years old, I bought my 08 Bounder in 2013 and paid 60 percent of what the owner paid new and he also put about $10,000 in upgrades that came with the Bounder, still looks new even today..

How is the fuel milage on it? I'm thinking around 8mpg? I mean it doesn't matter because I get about 11 with my F250 now and we have to drive two vehicles everywhere we go because it only seats 6 and we have 7 in our family. But I didn't know how it would be with towing a vehicle vs without.

I have the 2015 Windsport 27K and really like it. Sure, we had a few initial issues but they were minor. This is our third RV (first Class A) and third manufacturer, and I really can't say one is much different than the other in initial quality. Of course, none of the RV's I owned were a Prevost! ๐Ÿ™‚

I've owned 2 Thors now and have been very happy. Not only with the coaches and lack of issues but Thor's outstanding customer service. Some folks say Thors lack quality but at the entry level they are all the same. I've seen more issues on new Winnies lately than Thor. Most Thor owners are very happy with their RV's.

My wife and I also were looking quite a while for a first time motorhome. We had friends who had more troubles with the Thor than they ever imagined and finally decided to sale it and buy a stick house near the beach. I started asking around about Thor after than since they did seem to be the best priced but I now believe you get what you pay for. Several (many)salesmen suggested I stay away from the Thor.

We settled for a smaller but best quality Newmar. Anything larger would have been too expensive for our needs. I'd stick with a Winnabago,Fleetwood or other mid priced unit before settling for the Thor. But, there is never a guarantee that any one is going to be better than the other.

Important thing is that your happy and travels are enjoyable. Good Luck in your search.

I bought a Thor Vegas in 2015. Love it, it like others does leave a little to be desired in some of the workmanship but in looking at all other brands it was the best I could find. I shopped the entire east coast on pricing. I called Chris at Richard Motors in Michigan 1-800-929-4088 Cell 1-517-398-5070 and he beat my best price by thousands not hundreds. It was a 6 hour drive for me to pick it up but not only the 2500.00 savings the service has been there for me doing things to save me the trip. If you would like anymore info you can Privet message me.
