Power Tech Diesel Generator

I'm looking at purchasing a Newmar Kountry Star and it has a power Teck Diesel Generator in it.. Not sure what that is or who builds it. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is this a decent generator? I've had the onans and can easily say I wasn't ever impressed with one. Everyone I've owned and I mean "everyone" has failed on me at some time or another. With that being said I'm not afraid of trying a different brand. The Power tech is a CD 7000. Seems to run good. Who builds the power tech? Thanks..

We also have a PowerTech in our coach. Most of the Prevost conversions I have seen use PowerTech generators, if that tells you something!

I have the 8kw PowerTech in my own Country Coach and mine uses a Kubota engine

Power Tech also with a Isuzu engine here almost 800 hours. Quieter than my Onan Marquies in my old gasser.

I also have a PowerTech genset with the CAT engine and have had no issues with mine. It does have quite a bit of insulation around it and it doesn't appear to be any louder than other generators that I have heard. I wouldn't let the generator manufacturer be a deal breaker if you like the rig.

my setup uses the Power Tech, a 10 kw with the Kubota 4 cylinder 1800 rpm Diesel engine, presently at 2300 hrs, very smooth, quiet and dependable.
On my earlier MCI, had a 12 kW that used the Perkins 1.5L, 3 cyl diesel, ran over 6000 hrs, no issues.
I like the Power Tech for simplity, reliability & economy.

We have a PowerTech 7000 in our rig. Only 900 hours in 19+ years but we do some boondocking and use it in hot weather while driving.

It works fine but has had a few age related wiring and starter motor problems. Nothing serious. Powertech will respond to servicing inquiries and the Kubota engine parts are relatively easy to source.

However, Cummins West will do an oil change on the Cummins engine but will service only Onan generators.

We have a 10 kw PT original to our 96 Vogue with the 3 cylinder Kobota engine. Ours is a tad on the louder side but has functioned flawlessly for the 14 years we've owned the rig.

Powertech started out in the Marine Yacht business. Still does Marine. They crossed over to RV's about 15 years ago. They made 2 versions depending on how old. The originals did NOT have the optional sound deadening kits installed and were a little louder. Then some RV OEM's started optioning the sound kits. I believe most built in the past 10 years have the sound kit insulation standard now. They are very good units. They take the Diesel engines and then build the Genset around it. Doug

Most DP-PT generators for motor homes have water cooled Kubota engines. Some can be more noisy than others. Of course sound can be controlled by insulation. PT was a stand alone brand and then CAT. bought them and painted them yellow. I would ask to listen to it under load and then decide. Our 02 8KW DP-PT runs very quietly in our 02 DSDP which is mounted in the front on a slide out tray.

They are built in manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, China, India and a joint venture with Ishikawajima-Shibaura-Machinery company in Japan. We have a Powertech 8 kW in ours. I personally think it is noisier than the Onans, but it works. I am not a fan of ours because it is noisy & vibrates. Engine inside made by Caterpillar.
