Newbie to the forum and rving... We bought a 2000 Tiffin Allegro Zephyr that has not been used much for the last 8 years but we have seen it and it is in a heated shed. We have a mechanic checking it out for us tomorrow. The tires look great but are original. We are wondering if it safe to drive any distance at all before putting tires on it. It has about 50,000 miles and owner says he has used it occasionally for trip to lake.

Air fixed, needed 2lbs. Dryer quit. Breaker is fine. Will look for bad fuse today.

Sounds like a $10 can of R-134a may fix you up for a while. We have a 2000 Ford vehicle that will need a can every few years when the cooling becomes substandard.

We found the switch on the generator. Flipped the switch and now the air will run with generator power. Taking coach to shop tomorrow to see about dash air. Works but not cold enough. Wish that was just a switch or fuse. You know how the older cars had to have more freon put in occasionally? That's what it acts like.

Does your generator produce power to other accessories? Does the unit run with just the fan and no AC? Does the unit make any noise when you turn on the AC (drone) and bog down the generator RPM? If the compressor is in poor condition the initial demand to start the compressor will require a higher amount ampere current which is available on the land connect. The generator might not produce the 20 amperes or come close to the maximum rating due to age and maintenance issues. And one last does when your unit is turned on. With a land line connection does the unit turn on smoothly and start blowing cool air (not cold yet too soon for that to happen) within a second or two? If it does, you might consider checking the generator to ensure it can still produce over 20 amps. One single roof top should not require 50 amps the rating should be listed on the AC unit. Safe travels…

Join FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) they have a program that you can buy Michelin for a good price. My MH came with Michelin and I have had good service and ride, so that is what I replaced on mine. IMO if other brands were so good why don't the MH Manufacturers use them on new MH's?

I believe your Onan generator has a circuit breaker switch on it that could be tripped. If it is tripped, the generator WILL run but will not transfer any power being produced. See if you see that switch. Switch it off then back on and try powering up your AC with it again.

Air shouldn't take any more than 20 amp service.

We finally are on the road. Our zephyr is packed and we are trying it out. Our dash air isn't as cool as it should be so we thought we could run the overhead coach air while going down the road and running generator. Air only wants to work on 50 amp service. Any ideas?

After being parked that long I can see it needing a lot of service but that should be a one time thing for some of the items.

I recently purchased a 2000 Hurricane with 15,000 miles and the original tires. I carefully drove the motorhome the 80 miles necessary to get it home and then drove it 5 miles further and had 6 new Michelin XZE tires installed.

Tread depth on original tires was great, but weather cracks were appearing all over the tires. I still have the original spare though. I do have a brand new tire waiting to mount for the spare.

I'm glad to hear they checked/patch the roof. In a prior post in this thread I mentioned to keep an eye on it because it was stored. During the first good rain spend some time inside your coach looking for possible leaks. Since it was stored (and may never had been used except in nice weather) you could find a few when it sits in a rain storm. Best to repair them ASAP then a few years later when the unnoticed leaks becomes a major expense.

Lots....Mainly things that should have been done with regular maintenance. I should get an itemized list today. Some things I remember are hot water heater element, tires (of course), water filter in kitchen sink, seals in ac units ( had been screwed down so tight that they were mashed), faucet hookups for washer dryer hookup (not sure I need this), got carpets cleaned (what a difference), sealant on a few places on roof, etc. They changed almost all filters and oils $$$$. Brakes were good. I'll post more later. I don't know that much about the mechanics. Hubby knows more, of course. We knew we would have this expense. Honestly, to get it all done in one stop is a blessing. Now we can travel without so many worries.
