Raising Rear On Diesel Pusher

I am considering to buy a Winnebago Journey 40U. I have a steep driveway, 5 degree slope. The salesman, who knows my driveway, said I should not have an issue. I was wondering if there is a modification to the rear air suspension to raise the rear to help in clearance. Is there?

If the coach has AIR LEVELING it will have controls to raise and lower every corner. I use the feature to lower my coach so I can get it in my garage.

The salesman'e opinion is irrelevant. Take the rig to the designated driveway and try it. Either it'll drag or it won't.

The full width mudflap will likely bottom out before the rig itself. That can (and should!) be easily removed.

Can you back it up the driveway.

When your front wheels start up the driveway, the back end gets lower to the ground until the rear wheels start up the incline...and could scrape. Your coach is 40 ft so the front wheels have to go a long ways and the rear end keeps getting lower to the ground.

I'm cut in a driveway to the new RV barn and the excavator guy came back 2X to get the slope and approach angle correct so only the flap brushes the ground when I back in.

I didn't help that the road has a pretty good crown which made matters a bit worse.

The only thing you can do is try it and see. If it works fine...if not things get a bit more complicated.

Usually the grade isn't an issue, it's the approach angle. The rear will want to drag on the street.

I will test out the motorhome on my driveway before deciding to buy. The salesman has already agreed to it. Thanks for the info on checking out a heavy truck place to see about overriding the ride height valve.

Hi novi2some - it might be worth asking a heavy duty truck repair shop if they can equip your MH with an air suspension over inflation valve like heavy duty trucks have for certain applications. The valve is controlled from the driver seat and allows the suspension ride height to be raised (up to 4") for uncoupling trailers that don't have jack style landing gear, or clearing high crowned places with lowbeds etc.

No, there is no easy way to raise the rear of your coach.

(Some coaches have an air leveling system where they can dump the airbags to temporarily lower the coach a few inches while the engine is running, but this is of no help in your situation.)

First things first: Take the rig and salesman to your drive. Keep in mind that it's likely not loaded with cargo.
