Hello,

I just had an inspection done on my 2004 Tiffin Class A motor home and was told I had a lot pine cones on top of my Chevy workhorse engine and that they should be removed. The problem is I don't know how to remove the cover over the engine compartment with all the carpeting around it. Can anybody help me with this problem?

thanks!!

I had to get my 2015 Allegro smogged, (bought in Oregon and live in Calcornia) They wanted to look at the top of the engine and I had no idea how to get the "doghouse" open. I called Tiffin service and they sent me an e-mail with about 10 photos showing where the 7 or 8 screws are located and what it looks like opened. After all that the smog guy decided he didn't want to do that anyway. There are screws holding it down and it would help to have a small magnet to find them. They are Phillips head screws. Hope it helps.

If he keeps the coach in NH through the winter I would guess either squirrels or pack rats.

Probably with an inspection mirror.

My Workhorse has a hole for an Allan wrench at the back of the dog house on the top of the dog house. Take an ice pick and lightly poke around you should find it. Just a bit before the back end of the dog house. If you got a packet of books with the coach there should be a wrench in there that fits it. Just turn the wrench about a half turn after inserting in the hole. Mine sets so far down in the carpet pile I use a screw driver to raise it to get my fingers under it.

Run your fingers around the edge of the doghouse cover and you should find some screws.

You could also use a magnet.

I'd be curious to know how pine cones got to the top of the engine and how they saw them without removing the doghouse.

Let us know what you find.

My Bounder has 3 screws holding the "dog house" down. Just need to feel around in the carpet to find the heads, and then run them out with at power drill.

You might want to wander over to TRVN and ask. Good resource for Tiffin owners. I'm pretty sure I've seen one or two owners of your year coach on the boards over there. Might help to say which model you have, too.

Mine has two release snaps on the side towards the front and two screws in the rear of cover. Sometime you can't see those screws. My old Pace arrow had 4 screws. My present MH is not a Tiffin. There were pine cones on the engine and inspector didn't remove them? Would have taken at least another 30 seconds.

I just don't know if I have to remove all of the carpeting or not. Or if its bolted down.
