Replace Shower Tub with Pan

I’m thinking about replacing my shower “tub” with a lower profile pan, solely to eliminate the approx 14” step and ease the access to/from the shower. We have never used it as a tub, want to reduce chances of a slip and fall.

I see 3 components to replace: the tub with a pan, the shower walls and the sliding door (I’d also change the faucet while all is torn apart).

1) The pan is 24 x 40, a fairly universal piece I think.

2) The current “walls” are a one piece plastic (maybe fiberglass) unit. Given they will need to be 14” taller and I haven’t seen any one piece structures that high, I might have to get some flat panels, molding & caulking, and fabricate the enclosure.

3) The sliding door now rides about 14” above the floor, I’m sure there is some sort of wooden structure under there that I’ll have to rework to make it fit the lower step in. Then, I’d need to find some sort of taller shower door.

Questions: Make sense? Anyone done something like this and have suggestions on approach or on materials to use?

This is what we used. http://www.onyxcollection.com/ But as Dennis stated, check and see if you can go lower. Looks like you might be able to remove the lower panel or maybe look from the outside. You might have a lot of pipes in that area. We luck out and ours pipes drain were below the floor.

That said, you may be biting off more than you can chew. Depending on your coach the shower walls may be part of the wall construction. Use caution before deciding to just rip it out. Posting your rig particulars will get you better information.....Dennis
