Road Trek Ranger RT Storage Box

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this! I have recently purchased a Road Trek Ranger RT 2014 and need to know if it is possible to add a storage box behind the spare tire (I have seen pictures online showing this)

Road Trek tells me that I need an extended receiver but the RV place I am purchasing the Road Trek from seems confused about how to do this.

Can anyone explain how this is done so that I can then explain to the RV place.

Thank you,
Maple

GaryKH is absolutely right about the dealer "making" an extension. You can actually buy them at Walmart. Why would you--if you are honest and know what you are doing--tell someone that something could be "made" for you when you can get one at Walmart and a jillion other places?

X2 on the Stoaway box. There are lots of people that are happy with them. Also, i'd be Leary if an RV place wants to 'make' a hitch extension. Something they shouldn't really be doing, especially when there are premanufactured ones for sale.

MapleRose, take a look at this one:

https://www.stowaway2.com/

and this base/hitch for them to sit on:

https://www.stowaway2.com/swing-away-hitch-frame.aspx

The box "swings away" from the vehicle and allows access to the rear doors on the Roadtrek. If you have a continental kit spare, an extension is required and they sell them also. Be aware that the extension to get past the spare adds another foot to the length and then there is the box itself. I seem to recall the whole affair adds about three feet to the back of the coach from the doors.

I owned a Roadtrek 210 for many years and considered buying one of these setups but never did do it. I did buy a cheap hitch carrier at Walmart for less than a hundred bucks and just strapped a storage box to it. Still, you have to remove the stuff most of the time to open the rear door, at least on my 210 that was true. The swing hitch and box is a little pricey but very well made. Others on this forum probably have used them and can offer more help. You can call the Stowaway company, tell them your exact rig and they can tell you what your alternatives are with their products.

Hi Guys,
The RV place is now talking about "fabricating" an extension. Though they are a major RV place , they seem confused about how to add a storage box onto a Ranger RT 190 Road Trek. This seems odd? I wonder if you think I should take my RV to another place to get the storage box added on. And if so can you recommend an honest and reasonable place to take it to?
Thank you everyone

I sent you a link from etrailer.com for a hitch extension.

They are inept and you should go to another service center. Consider a place that installs hitches. They will know what to do. Or just order the parts yourself. No skills needed for installation!

If you find you need one, then you can buy an (7"-8"?)extension from Rack-Attack in Vancouver area.
