RV Inspection Services

I am looking at a used motorhome in Rockford, IL. Can anyone recommend a reputable inspection service in that area?

The motorhome is located at Collier RV. Anyone done business with them?

Maybe take a day and drive too look at it and if its what you want then have it inspected to satisfy your getting a good coach..

I talked to the dealer yesterday and the unit was still available. He wanted me to but down $500 deposit to hold it. "No way" I said, until an inspection was done and I saw the unit in person.

The inspection service does have someone available who can look at the unit, but I'm getting cold feet as I will likely be spending $1000+ in travel/inspection services before I can ever get a look at the unit.

I passed on several rigs that were exactly what we wanted but I couldn't justify the expense of the trip to go look at them. In one case, the coach was local but I couldn't get the seller to agree to let me see it in the daylight. Big red flag.

My only advise is do not buy it sight unseen. If you can't get to see it and can't find an inspector in the area, then wait for one to come on the market that's local. There are just too many shady people out there selling their problems to unsuspecting buyers.

Any input from someone who has distance purchased a used RV?

I was planning on calling the dealer to get their input on the condition, then having a professional inspector check it out before we go look at. A day drive from my house. We have seen other models and like the floorplan, just lurking for the right one, and this may be it.

Some years ago we bought a used Winnebago Journey from Winnebago Motorhome Sales in Rockford, IL. Terry Graham and his sons were really good folks and, while we were there, we spoke to a number of his regular customers who spoke highly of the dealership.

You might give them a call and see if one of their techs would be willing to do the inspection for you.

My dad purchased a used class c from them. I was not happy with the dealer. It had standing water and visible mold in it that they claimed they had no idea. It was immediately evident to me. My dad had no experience with rv's but knows trucks and engines. So the mechanical stuff was okay but the rv side was an issue. They did not work with me at all and did nothing to try and make amends. Long story short because it was a good brand it was not totally destroyed and I put in a lot of work to get it usable. If you can get a good price be sure to inspect it very very carefully.
