RV Warranty Work Anti-Rant

Usually, posters focus and rant on the bad service they get from RV dealers. Here is my anti-rant. Five Minutes after I posted a Warranty Update to our blog yesterday, our service advisor called to say our 2016 ERA 70x in for warranty service was ready. So we sat in traffic on Interstate 35 just South of Denton while they cleared an accident, hoping to get to McClain's RV before they closed at 6. We made it with an hour to spare. LESSON learned from this experience: When picking up your unit after any work, check ALL systems, switches, valves, latches, etc. First of all, one of the small issues was the missing shower curtain ring. I noted during the walk-through yesterday that they had not installed it. Understandable oversight--no big deal. So we retrieved it from the parts department and I attached it with pliers when we arrived home. They also fixed the small window screens. They are now tight against the window frames. A new Jensen TV (with all good pixels) had been installed. So far, so good.

As far as the gap in the glass on the left hand side of the coach, McClain's sent a picture of it to Winnebago and we are waiting to see what Winnebago says. Click on the picture in our blog era70x.com to see the issue.

Finally, as I was backing up to leave, the Xite radio/DVD/Sirius/toaster/backup camera said: "No Video detected". This was a new problem that the coach did not have when it was dropped off. SO: AGAIN: When picking up your unit after any work, check ALL systems, switches, valves, latches, etc. not just those issues for which it was taken in. I have to give kudos to McClain's service techs Jonathan and David, as they stayed past quitting time to remove the Xite unit, and determine the video cable to the unit had not been firmly seated and had jostled loose. Reconnected, and all is well. My McClain's service meter ticked up from 8 to 9. (1 awful, 10 best). I had McClain's change the generator oil (20 hours) per the Cummins Onan instructions. Could have done it myself, but why if it is already in the shop? It cost $116.00 for that service. Maybe I should have done it myself. However, considering the good service we have received from McClain's so far on the warranty items, overall, the price paid is fair. Overall, no complaints. As McClain's says: "And Thanks alot."

Thanks for the advice on having the Sprinter chassis warranty work done elsewhere, bobojay5. I will find a MB dealer to do that work, hopefully it won't be necessary!

Not just warranty work. Any chassis work. Regular service, warranty or otherwise. If you can't find a MBZ dealer that works on Sprinters try Freightliner. Most Dodge dealers no longer do Sprinter work.

Haha! Yes, they made a work order with everything on it. They just did not follow it too closely, and failed to check everything off of it before delivery back to us. So, my advice (free, so it is worth that), make your own list and check each item off when you pick up your coach-DO NOT ASSUME they have done everything. AND, check not only the items it was taken in for, but everything else in the coach too! Flip switches, turn valves, activate fans, check seats, etc. do a thorough walk around. Cheers, Mike era70x.com

Wow, $116.00 for 7/8 of a quart of oil, and 20-25 minutes time? I'll do it myself even if it is a b***h to do on the ERA genset.

I believe once you get your small issue items taken care of, you'll be happy with your coach. Remember, it's a house on wheels, so stuff will vibrate loose and break, so expect regular upkeep & tool time to be part of your regimen.

Have you found, or know of a good Sprinter dealer to do your chassis service work? Do not!! let McClain do your Sprinter chassis service A & B. Specific oils and fluids are required for the Sprinter to maintain it's warranty

A lot of places have a minimum, so the that could account for the $100.00, and the rest is materials, and shop supply's.
