About to switch to Usung Satellite system. We have joined the FT Community and planning full mobility (East to West and South to North). We are interested about who are the providers of satellite HDTV service. We have two HD tv's. Appreciate any feedback and/or experience.

Note that the automatic dome style dishes like the X2, Tailgater, King, etc., do not work with Dish's high end multiple tuner receivers like the Hopper/Joey series, nor do they receive HD on DirecTV systems. It rarely takes me more than 10-15 minutes to set up our tripod mounted dish and aim it. About the same time frame it takes to set up the portable automatic domes and wait for them to find the satellites.

I have the Winegard X2 with Dish Network and it works really well. We get high defy signals. We purchased 100 foot of low loss cable so we can place the dish where it will be able to see the satellites. Many campgrounds have a lot of trees and you need flexibility in where you place the dish. The X2 automatically acquires the satellites. After watching people spend a lot of time pointing a manual satellite dish, we decided an automatic system is the way to go.

As above we use Winegard Trav'ler with directv, works great. It is the same big dish as the stand alone one on the ground. All automatic. We were on Dish but were not happy so we switched. We have a HD antenna but have found it all but useless, unless you watch PBS , Spanish stations or ME tv. Our rig came with a tracvision type roof satellite but that was nothing but trouble. You can use the stand alone manual dish but with the new Directv single LNB you need a good meter to lock on the signal. We use this if we are extended stay and don't have a line of sight for the Travler.

Don't rule out the use of your BATWING OTA Antenna for picking up the Digital National Broadcast Network from the local towns...

This is what we use full time now and have great results all over the places where we camp at. This is free to the public and offers digital full high def TV reception... Each station is allowed up to six channels so alot of old movies and usually a 24/7 WX RADAR station is available as well.

This was always my PLAN B when other methods failed. Since the Natl Broadcast now has changed over to digital HDTV we have stopped bringing along our spare SAT RX and Dish tripods from the house account etc... We get our HDTV fill just fine and it doesn't cost us a penny haha...

We have the Directv Genie system installed in our toy hauler with wireless service to three TV's. Antenna is the rooftop mounted Winegard Trav'ler. We receive HD service from all three Directv satellites and can watch different shows at the same time on all tv's. In the past two weeks we have traveled from Southern California to Florida and have had no issues acquiring satellites. It's a great system.

PS. the Trav'ler is the only antenna that can get HD from Directv.

There are two US satellite TV providers, Dish and DirecTV. There are positives and negatives for both, depending on what your programming preferences are. We use Dish with a portable tripod mounted dish.

Had to read your subject line again, I thought you were planning on using a 4 foot dish.
