Sealing basement compartments

Most if not all Fleetwood products use a moulded plastic basement compartment. I think they are some form of ABS. The compartments are pop riveted to a metal frame. FW uses some type of shiny black caulk to seal the area where they are attached. I suspect it is Polyurethane but not sure. Silicone does not stick. Any idea what caulk they used?

Windshield sealant works real good on something like that. Sold at AutoZone stores.

If you want to stay with a black sealant, Sika makes several good sealants in black. Commonly used in automotive/truck manufacturing.

Wonder if it's plain old butyl? Comes in tubes or in tape form. Fleetwood is not known for stepping out of the box and using esoteric products that might cost them a few pennies more then readily available stuff.

I would give Fleetwood a call and ask them. I would hope they would know what they used, and when I have called them they have always found someone that did know.

I agree that it's a poly-expensive but very functional. In my real life we use different types made by VULKEM-all work very well.
