Small plates with 1/2 hole in floor?

I'm replacing my carpet (96 thor residency) and there are two small metal plates with a 1/2 hole in the center. One is about a foot to the left of the entry door, and about a foot away from the wall. The other one is located on the opposite side, about five feet toward the rear of the coach compared to the first plate. Each hole goes all the way through to the underside ( you can see light). Does anyone have an idea of the purpose of these plates, and should I just carpet over them? I also have a plate with a small hole located in the front of the floor of each slideout.

I too have a 96 Residency,the plates are for the manual jack to pull in slides in case your slideout power fails.There is a pin that drops in the hole for securing jack

I do also have a similar plate in each slideout... I think the person with the "slideout tie down" suggestion is correct. The plates on the floor line up with the slideout plates!

I have anchors on the floor to strap down rocking chairs. Perhaps someone modified the tie downs?

I have two holes by my slide that have short straps that are intended to tie the slide in during transit. I also have the holes where there are no slides but by looking at old brochures the other models have slides that match up to the holes. The foolish part is they are solid steel plates with steel pipe through the chassis and then just a little chrome hook held to the steel pipe with what look like cabinet hinge screws.

How are the plates attached to the floor? Are the plates removable? If they are removable, how large is the opening in the floor? If removable, I would remove them and using liquid nails or equivalent, glue a piece of sheet metal over the holes. The sheet metal thickness would depend on the size of the hole. This would seal the floor; then you can install the new carpet.

Obviously, you do not need the holes. I would keep the plates just in case there would ever be a slight chance they would be needed in the future. Let us know how you make out. Wishing you the best.

1/2 inch or 12mm fasteners suggest to me anchors for safety equipment like seat belts or seats designed to be seat belt anchors. Only two, probably not a seat The rear passenger seat in my van was anchored with ten bolts that size, into a 1/4 inch backing plate.
