spray lube for jacks?

I'm thinking of lubing my jacks before retracting them. What lube do you use? I heard WD40 attracts dirt, so I'm thinking pure silicone?

You have read just one small part of what WD 40 does. Doug

THIS IS FROM WD 40'S WEBSITE!

WD-40 Multi-Use Product fulfills five basic functions:
1.LUBRICATES: The product's lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and tenaciously held to all moving parts.
2.PENETRATES: WD-40 Multi-Use Product loosens rust-to-metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted metal parts.
3.PROTECTS: The product protects metal surfaces with corrosion-resistant ingredients to shield against moisture and other corrosive elements.
4.REMOVES: WD-40 Multi-Use Product gets under dirt, grime and grease. Use it to remove gunk from tools, equipment and vehicles. WD-40 Multi-Use Product in liquid form (e.g., gallon) also dissolves adhesives, allowing easy removal of excess bonding material.
5.DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because it displaces moisture, WD-40 Multi-Use Product quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits. Doug

Usually, the jack activation pad in the dash area will state what brand. Doug

or a dry graphite spray. It's messy but doesn't attract dirt. Can't believe a users manual recommends WD-40 as a lubricant.

When my HWH jacks starting sticking during retraction I used a rag and ATF to wipe the extended cylinders. I haven't had to do it but once or twice per trip. I also carry a 4 ft 2x4 and 2ft 4x4 for some added leverage if needed.

You do not need to lube the cylinders. When the manual states to wipe with Silicone or WD-40, what they are wanting is to make sure the extended visible cylinder is clean and DRY. You wipe off the lubricant as a cleaning agent. The cylinder is immersed in ATF when retracted, so in a way it is self lubricating. Doug

My manual for my HWH jacks recommend spraying with WD-40 and then wiping it off. However, my previous Safari coach (made by Monaco) recommended silicon spray.

Do what your manual stipulates.

Some jacks need lubed and some do not. Check to see what your owner's manual says. If you have the RVA brand jacks and put lube on the extended jack, all you will do is attract dirt.

Silicone is a good choice...any of them.
Actually, I have been using WD40 - Silicone for lots of stuff. Works very well.
