Thor new coach Axis

What can anyone tell me about the Thor Coaches. What quality of their coaches. Anyone out there looked at the new Axis. I have looked at the Axis only in pictures. Small class A but something I'm looking for. Any help appreciated.

We have had our Axis for a week! Downsized from a large class A. Handles nicely! Have some warranty issues, but once they are fixed we should be happy campers!!

They are going for a hair over $72 at MHS near Fort Worth.

The dealer expects the price to stay near that for a while - i.e. several months.

Finally got a chance to sit in one yesterday at a local dealer. They've got it advertised for and they've sold one so far, and apparently had a number of people come look at it. Will probably take the wife back next week and drive it.

My thoughts (all tinged with coming from a 2006 Roadtrek RS Sprinter):

- Internal layout: pretty good. The main salon is surprisingly spacious, the very open cab with huge windows makes it feel even bigger.

- Cab: Weird, but pretty cool. Massive windows and view.

- Bathroom: The door is a little tricky at first, but you wind up with a lot of space to move around, dry off, etc. One downside: there is no privacy from the bedroom.

- Bedroom: The holy grail for me: put the insert in full time, chuck the******mattresses and buy a single king-sized tempurpedic and I can actually sleep. (I'm still fighting a hip pointer from 5 nights in the Adventurous).

- Build quality: looked OK. The Roadtrek feels a little nicer and more refined - this feels more "entry RV".

- Exterior size: This is obviously the big change. We got the Roadtrek because you can take it anywhere and park it almost anywhere. This guy isn't huge, but no cheating in a single parking spot in a city.

Bottom line: It is interesting enough that I think we've got to drive it and see.

Question for those that have bought more RV's that me: They are advertising it at $79, with MSRP in the usual ridiculous range. Is that $79k price point likely to stay, or just a teaser until spring?

I got to look at a couple.

The sales of the Via/Reyo have shown the floor plan is popular.

Sales of the Citation and Siesta Sprinter vehicles have shown the size fits a certain demographic - but those cannot meet the price point of many couples.

Some folks just don't want a diesel. It takes a long time and a lot of miles to make up the price difference between a diesel and a gas vehicle on better fuel mileage and reliability. Plus the Sprinter 'idle' misunderstanding has a lot of folks scared.

I'm seeing more and more vehicles of this size driven by much older couples (75+) as their last mobile RV choice. They pull in - setup quickly - spend a night - unhook to sightsee, etc - then come back daily.

It looks to be a tremendous pain to me, but I'm seeing folks doing it very happily.

The big reason for the Class A type body vs a Class C type cab in this size range is the front seats. The Class A body allows the seats to be part of the living area - with 90 degree or 180 degree rotation.

I'm curious if anyone has looked at or bought one of these. It has a nice size to it, and the single slide is good enough for weekend camping, but still trying to attempt to fit in a single parking space.

Of course, the price is right. MPG-wise, I'm not expecting anything more than 12-13, but the price difference between it versus a Winnebago VIA can buy a lot of gasoline as a consolation prize.

The Axis and the Vegas are the same with different décor. We are a retired couple and were very excited to see the Thor Axis at an RV show in California this fall. We felt the coach had been designed especially for us, from function and layout to décor! We ordered ours for delivery in January and are hoping for the best outcome in performance, i.e. gas mileage and quality. As a retired couple, we found traditional Class A’s to be too big and too costly, with disappointing gas mileage. We once considered the Itasca Reyo 25T diesel, but felt the coach was too small and over budget, despite the excellent floorplan The Axis seems to be an enhanced and practical gas version of the Reyo with more storage and bigger, plushier furniture and an elevated, quality two door refrigerator. Oh, sure, there were a couple of minor design issues, but of no consequence given how Thor NAILED this innovative design for those of us who have been searching for a shorter, spacious rig with an affordable price and slightly better gas mileage than past gas rigs. We are really looking forward to delivery and hope we won’t be disappointed. No doubt, love at first sight – Thor Axis!

6000 pounds seems to be the difference on all of them. I think it's a guess on thors part.

thor says 188 inch wheelbase in specs but the e-350 does not really match.

the specs actually match better with the F-59 except for the gas tank.
i think all these specs are slightly off or a mishmash of several ford chassis.

they quote the v-10 mileage in a small van.

big rv's with a lot of wind resistance will get less. it's not the engine perse-but that wind resistance.:B
