In searching for a pump I came across a technical service bulletin from Cummins stating that the transfer pump should be changed since the introduction of ULSD destroys the transfer pump gasket. (Not available separately).

OP has a 2002 ISC 8.3 and all of the pumps on Ebay are for the older (98 and older) mechanical pumps.
OP, doubt you will be able to just change the pump as the new units use a different base... you will have to remove the five lines and change the entire transfer pump assembly. I did not think $212 was that bad a price.

Bought one this summer from Cummins for $212. Unfortunately you cannot any longer buy just the gasket.

My buddy went through the same thing with his 2002 8.3 in his Kenworth. He went so far as to get a new pump and pull the old one. That's when he found a simple loose fitting on it and he didn't need to replace it at all.

BTW, an interesting thing we found out about that lift pump is it doesn't run all the time like it does on the B engines. It just gets a flow started and then turns of after 20~30 seconds.
