Two Couches in DPs, Need Ideas for Replacing One

A lot of the DPs we have looked at have two couches. Even though they sleep 4 or 5 people they have seats for 8 or more and with just the two of us, we don't need the 2nd couch. Since I'm also a furniture maker, we're looking for ideas for something to replace the extra couch.

We've seen the desk and chair, credenza, and entertainment center, but wonder if there is something you've seen that would prove useful in that space. Please give us your ideas.

We recently took out one of the 2 full size sofa/beds and put in 2 Euro Chairs. Absolutely LOVE it now !! Best part is they took my couch on consignment and sold it !! Pretty much got one recliner for free:B

I took out a J-couch and replaced it with a computer desk that uses a swing-out cantilever for my monitor.

The computer is in a vented cabinet behind the chair, and I placed a printer on the surface above the computer.

Now that I'm alone, if I hang onto my motorhome (rather than downsizing to a B) and start using it for snow birding, my one couch will be coming out to be replaced by a large work table and a decent chair. That's about all the furniture I actually use at home, besides the bed.

That's what fits my needs, and it would also be the configuration of any custom-built B. But if my wife were still alive, the couch would be replaced by a rocker recliner and a sewing table, those would be her needs for long-term use of the RV.

So do whatever fits your needs.

Just make sure that whatever DP you choose, the couch you want to take out can come out, and is not hiding utilities. Less likely to be a problem with a DP than with a smaller motorhome, but sometimes buyers planning modifications fail to check.

I could never relate to 2 couches in a RV. That was one thing I walked on by when looking. Mine has a desk with the pull out mentioned above and a swivel recliner.

LOL

I'd go for a wood lathe and bandsaw.

And just like Dennis this is not my area...

That is really fine.

We weren't too happy when we bought our Executive because it had a desk instead of the 2nd couch but we loved everything else about the coach. I told my wife we could live with it for a yr and I'd replace it if she wanted the extra couch. ( our previous coaches all had the two) Easier to replace the desk than the other way around. Anyway, I have NEVER used the desk. But, I've never used it because DW has commandeered it for herself. We did replace the crappy chair that came with it with a Lambright lounger, but that's her space. I don't think you can go wrong with the desk arrangement. Only thing I want to change is the pop up electrical/USB port thing that they have on the newer Monacos.....Dennis

I have seen some nice desk/entertainment center conversions. They also use fold up shelf doors at middle end to act as table or more desk space. Key to the success is often a really nice chair that swivels and reclines.Saw one with two built in dog crates that served as benches with table in between and storage behind to act as backrest. Simple cushions to soften seating. Figure what you need and do it.

A swivel rocker and a desk would be my dream. I would love to take out the dinette and add a 16" deep credenza with storage and a fold up table with leaf with two freestanding chairs.

Be aware of anything that may be hiding under the couch you wish to replace; sometimes makers like to hide mechanical systems or outside storage compartments or whatever under couches, and you'll have to take any of that into account when figuring your replacement.

I like the way you think! BUT, I don't think that would fly. I have actually been contemplating a small 2'X 4' knock down bench that I could take with me along with a few hand woodworking tools--a rip saw, crosscut saw, dovetail saw, a few chisels, hand planes and some measuring and marking tools. I could either make legs for it or clamp it to a picnic table.
