Valid Auto Leveling - Does Yours Do This?

I am looking at a 2007 Camelot with a Valid leveling system. When you engage 'Auto' it seems to complete the leveling properly, lowering the coach and then raising the lowest corners to arrive at level. But then for the next minute or two, the compressor continues to run and there is the sound of relays clicking away, maybe 50 to 100 times before it finally all stops. Then the green light in the auto button continues to flash indefinitely.

The other symptom is when the key is first turned on, the same batch of relays start clicking and continue for maybe 20 - 30 seconds before they stop.

The resident "expert" at the dealership is telling me this is normal behavior on Valid systems. I am having a hard time swallowing that.

Steve, the owner has an older Prevost that is spotless!...If you ever get over there, ask him to see the engine...it looks like a display model.

I'll do that.

Unfortunately, the deal on the Camelot died this morning when I decided to walk. The dealer, Premier Motorcoach in Tucson, was all friendly and overwhelmingly supportive when I was heading down to purchase a 2007 Executive they have in stock (and they own). When I got there, I was not impressed with the coach and decided to pass. I turned my attention to the consigned Camelot I posted about here, but one of the dealership owners was less than pleased that I was backing out on the Executive. For the remainder of yesterday afternoon, there was a noticeable change in the sales climate with an undercurrent of irritation rather than enthusiasm in making a sale. I felt like the money from the Executive was already spent and I screwed things up. I made the decision overnight to pack up in the morning and head out, which I did. This was not a pleasant outcome as I had driven 840 miles to get there, my car stuffed with everything from tools to sheets to kitchen supplies.

The real loser here, however, is the Camelot owner up in Montana, who thinks this dealership has his best interest at heart. I intended to buy that coach but I didn't need the punitive attitude and mellow interest from the dealership. There are thousands of other coaches out there.

Give these guys a try. They have a 2005 Executive. Great guys to talk too. I ended up buying my coach somewhere else but their coaches are really clean and Steve runs a 'no pressure' kind of shop.

Thanks for the clarification William. Never know, I might find another coach with a Valid system.

When I get home today, I will take a look at Premier in Junction City. Having had a 2005 Allure before (34'), I would definitely consider one again, especially if it is a 470. I was very interested in an '07 42' 470 like yours from Oregon and currently garaged in Phoenix, but the engine serial number was right in the middle of the Cummins wristpin recall group and I just wasn't willing to take the chance.

Stuart, sorry the deal went sour for you.

Have you checked with Premier RV in Junction City, OR? They usually have a good selection of nice used high end coaches. They are really nice folks.

They have a really nice looking 2006 Allure 42' that seems to be priced right.

I know the coach is a done deal, but what you describes sounds right to me, you weren't running the engine in the first description of the leveling were you? If the engine is not running and the coach needs to raise any corner, the compressor will run, that's why it is recommended to run the engine until the coach is level indicated by a slowly blinking green light. How long it takes is dependent on how level the site is, if pretty level, maybe 15-20 seconds, but we have a site we often visit that is quite tilted and it has taken up to 10 minutes! Just some info to put in your back pocket while looking for the next coach. Good luck!

I have a 2008 Beaver (pretty much the same as the Camelot) and my Valid air only leveling starts off like yours but the compressor doesn't run immediately after leveling the coach...only after being parked a few days. And when I turn on the key, I get all of the clicking you described (relays) for only about 3-5 seconds.

I am always curious why, when you have been posted the number of Valid, you do not call them and find out from the CORRECT source about your concerns???? Doug

Some of the clicking your hearing when you first start up the coach is probably the ABS system ,if it has it doing its checks they last for a few seconds as a check each of the ABS solenoids
