What would you buy for a $175,000?

From what I’ve learned from you about buying a used coach is nothing is more important than the chassis and the best chassis is the semi-monocoque because of its strength and rigidity! I also understand that an aluminum/metal exterior is also the best.

Its my understanding that both of these things are available on the Monaco and Country Coach in the years I’m looking for. I have to stay with a coach that is no more than 10 years old because I’ll need to finance part of it.

I’m looking for;

• 2005 to 2010
• 45’ Motorhome
• Bath and a half
• Two or more slides
• King sized bed or Queen

What do you think and I'd be happy to hear other recommendations you have?

Thanks for your help,

I guess it takes one "gas pusher" to recommend something like that.

I guess I am a "gas pusher" pusher.

Friends here just got a Monaco Signature Triple Crown -- Wow so nice. I believe theirs was in your price and years range. It may be 42' though instead of 45 - not sure.

I would buy a $175k house, rent it for $1800/mo. Use the income to make the payment on a $175k motor home.
Fast forward 10 years; the motorhome is paid for (with rental income) and now worth $30k....BUT the house is now worth over $200k.
Now I'm too old for the motor home, I sell it for $30k, use the cash to remodel the rent house, and sell or move in!
I call this a WIN!

I hope your kidding! Makes me want to go and throw a rock at my HR. Might not only buy 10 years worth.

The only problem is that it is a Cummins ISB-6 which is what is in a pickup truck and non-sleeved. Need to go to an ISC or bigger to get sleeves and more power. It will be a little under powered. but itis a good deal for someone that can over look the engine.

Does that mean I need to sell my 42' with the same engine that gets 10mpg and goes down the freeway just fine and up every hill thrown at it? And it still can pull 10,000lbs.

Wonder how this forum got so many Cummins engineers on it. And Freightliner should be sued for ordering rigs not capable ( according to some here) of performing as they are pushing the engines too hard.

Somewhere along the line the measure of a MH capability is how fast it goes up a hill.

For what it's worth the engines (ISB) were in many different platforms before they were ever put in a pickup truck.

I would also look for a 2005 or 2006 Newmar Essex. You will probably need to take a 4502 rather than a 4508 for that price, but it is a fine machine.

Blue Bird Wonderlodge, I forgot about those and they are a terrific coach! I love Newell but you'll not find a 2005 for $175 and I've not seen a Foretravel for that amount either.

I was once Bluebird crazy and even looked at a few. I spent hours every day on the WOG forum. I'm not into them so much any more. I love the looks of the older 70-80s Wanderlodges. Now I'm more of a Foretravel Newell dreamer.

My thanks to one and all although some were just a little off the subject! 😞

It looks like there is general agreement that a Monaco, Country Coach and Beaver are the way to go and that is good news because there seems to be an excellent selection of these coaches.

Thanks again for your help.
