Where is power inserter on King Dome?

My son-in-law recently acquired a 1999 Dolphin Class A. It has a King Dome satellite receiver--the kind that works while driving.

I tried to get the satellite working today and after all the set up and diagnostics, the verdict is that the power inserter is not connected.

Does anyone have a clue where to look for the inserter? (Sorry, we're TT people with a dish sitting out there on the ground with all wiring clearly visible. MHs are a new adventure.)

THAT part you listed (Direct TV) is NOT used at all on your system That part is for Home multiple receiver systems. Your Model KD will lock onto the Sat without a receiver connected. So, since it does NOT lock on there is a problem with the Sat Dome. Doug

He probably has a KVH, and they did not supply 120v to 12v inverters with their systems until late 2008, and that was only if the manufacturer ordered the option when they ordered the domes. I am dealing with this now on my 07. KVH tried to tell me they always shipped them, but a friend who used to sell them called them on it and KVH finally admitted mine did not ship with it. They sent me one for free, but I am also looking to replace the KVH I have.

I've since learned that it's an adjunct to the DirecTV set-top box, not part of King-Dome.

I got the information from running the diagnostics on the DirecTV receiver.

Here's one. (This may or may not be the exact one I'm looking for, but there's a bunch of them on this website, so if I find something I'm sure I can identify it.)

I know what it is, I just don't know WHERE it is.

I'm thinking I may have to remove the set-top box to find it. Ugh!

They come standard on KD Dome systems and are NOT a 120 to 12 volt converter like you are thinking. KD systems operate on 24 volt which I assume the OP is calling the Power Inserter what KD calls the Power supply which connects to the "Tuner" (not the Sat receiver). The tuner has a Coax that goes to the Dome and the Sat receiver LNB coax goes to the tuner. Unlike usual Sat dishes or other domes, the voltage in the Coax from the Tuner AT the dome is 24 volts and not the Pulsed 13 to 18 volt normal signal from the Sat receiver output to the Dish. Also the Coax must be RG6 and rated at 2.2 GHz, which is supplied by KD. The 2.2 GHz is a special extra shielded Coax to prevent loss and problems from transient electrical in the RV. Using regular RG 6 Coax not 2.2 rated can cause operational problems. Doug

My KD 9762 has a separate power supply, similar to laptop brick. That plugs into the separate tuner from where the power goes to dome thru coaxial cable. Check page 2 of the manual

I have never heard the term "power Inserter" and I have installed and fixed hundreds of RV Domes over the years including KD. How did you determine that you needed a "power Inserter"???? Since KD has no such part, I am curious how you came to use that term and why you think you need it. ON the Dome and ON the KD manual will be the Model. Please post the model of the KD dome. IF you can get the model, KD has a website for troubleshooting. Doug

Power for my in motion King Dome comes thru the antenna coax cable.

Our In-Motion KVH dome antenna has a 12v connection to power the antenna's search function.

The information for satellite locations is transmitted by a low speed data port in the Direct TV receiver. Newer dome antenna do not need this low speed data port connection which is a wire that ends in a telephone cable type plug.

I believe the antenna instructions in those units pass power via the receiver to antenna coax cable, but am not sure.

If required, the low speed data port cable will be part of the down leads into the coach from the roof top antenna.

I just became aware of the term "power inserter" and only know it to be part of a Direct TV SWM installation. The Dome in question is likely not a SWM equipped antenna.

All the above are based upon my experience with Direct TV and a different in motion dome.
