who has done a complete renovation

Hi, we have recently purchased a 1999 Newmar Mountain Aire 4080DP and are starting to determine what we want to do to renovate/update it to our tastes. I would like to hear from others that have done something similar (think bus conversion as the level of reno)as we want to essentially gut it and completely redo it. Floors, wall panels, roof panels/lights, kitchen, bath and floors. We want to update it to a contemporary style from it current traditional motif. The body and mechanicals are perfect, so just looking to make the inside as nice as the outside. Having said that, the interior is in perfect condition, just don't like traditional styling.

Thanks!

Sorry about that. Most of the time when I relay a link, I don't have too much trouble. I'll try it this way. 40 AD Vectra Remodel
Try that, if it still doesn't work, we'll go for plan z.

I might butt in here and just to say, that's one mean machine you have there and probably wouldn't know how to act around it as an owner.
Looks really good for sure!

tropical36,
I WISH that was mine! It's not, I just relayed the link of the gent who did all the work. Man, like I stated before, I love those ceiling "infinity" lights. If you look up "Infinity lights", you'll find a website for them and a company that has a specialty in lighting.

I think the link truncated because you get an error message. can you post a shorter link perhaps?

koresample,
I'm posting a link here from another RV forum. The gent just finished a serious internal, and some external modifications and changes. It's been around for short time but, I'm assuming it's ok to "relay" it to folks like yourself who have intensions attacking a refurb job. Keep in mind, some of it is extreme and not to everyone's taste. He did what "he" wanted to, not what anyone else might like.
He put some serious coin into it too. Wait 'till you see the ceiling lights. I really like those. Anyway, check it out and if there's anything you might want to think about.

You sound like a man after my own heart! Yes, any info you cold provide would be great/ Do you have any before and after pics you could post or PM to me? Could you PM me and give me an idea of some of the costs you incurred for the work done for comparative sake?

Thanks,

Mike

I have totally redone my Foretravel and know other FT owners who have done the same. I replaced the TVs by redoing the cabinets upfront. New driver and o pilot seats, one is an air ride the other is a recliner type, new carpet. Pulled out the cabinet behind the passenger and put in a bigger one replaced the couch with a new one and a J sofa and table. Actually hated the J lounge and table so pulled that and extended the slide floor 9.5 inches and put in a breakfast bar. Pulled the fridge and put in a residential one. Just measures to replace the counter tops with stone. Replaced the shower and will pull the electric toilet and put in a manual one. Replaced and made a window box head board and put in dark out blinds electric in the bedroom. Put in electric privacy blinds on the front window and MCDs all around. Basically went down to the walls and redid it. I would be happy to direct you to the places that did the work.

A local shed builder here in New England refers to that material as "Fall-apart-tickle board", especially when it gets wet.

Thanks Barth, where did yiu source the light fixtures from?

I used the same fixtures. I had them sprayed with an industrial paint.

It sounds like a fun and awesome project. Please post images of your before, during and after!

Be prepared for what you'll find once you begin demolition! Hidden damage under carpet, showers, & cabinets is common.

Wallboard may not be simply tacked on unless your year coach was built that way. In some cases they are glued/laminated together with the frame & outer wall. The redos I've heard about usually paint or wallpaper the existing (sometimes vinyl) covered wallboard, with positive results unless the wallboard is actually damaged.

Good luck!
