Windshield Falling Out

I have a 1990 class A Mallard 30 ft. The windshields have popped out of the gasket, not completly, but to the point that the bottom edge of the glass is exposed. This is the 2nd time that we had the glass reset. The glass shop say's this is common to motorhomes. Is this true?

It was a heavy truck inspection Pat.

I've done that when I didn't level properly. Other than that no issues.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

This vehicle was just NYS inspected, now I see that the gasket on the driver side is actually pulled away from the frame and there is a gap there. Wondering if it was even legally passed.

Following is NYS windshield and glass inspection requirement for a heavy truck inspection:
http://www.dmv.ny.gov/forms/cr79.pdf, para 79.27 (h). But I am not able to paste it here. For questions about the NYS State Inspection, call (518) 474-5282 and select option 4. They can tell you if it legally passed or not and if you have a complaint against the inspector, how to file it.

Which type (weight) inspection did they do on your bus???

A glass guy came to my home and put it back but told me that it was an aftermarket replacement (both halves) and not a good fit. He orders his replacement glass from the original manufacturer when possible. Suggested if it happens again that he would need to pull it out and reset it.

Any idea who would reset these windshields? I just called a mobile auto glass place and they said they would not do it. Suggested the motor home place but I am reluctant to take it there.

I too was turned down by a local mobile auto glass place. I found one RV dealer that would do it and I found a contact from my local big rig shop that does glass on the big rigs and rv's.

You want one that specializes in motorhome or heavy truck windshields. There are several who advertise in Motorhome Magazine and Family Motor Coaching.

In looking at my Allegro, it does not look cut out but rather molded for the windshield gasket as there is a lip all around the opening. I'm wondering if I use a windshield gasket tool and some soapy water if I can get it to pop back into place.

Several years ago I also owned a 96 Southwind and had the driver's side pop out of the frame while driving. I found a glass shop nearby and they reset it. It came out again and I had it reset again. That glass shop told me the hole was cut too big and the gasket could barely stretch across the opening. I contacted Fleetwood and they had me bring it back to the factory and they put additional fiberglass around the opening, then reset it. It lasted until I got rid of the coach. A foreman at their plant told me that cutting the original hole in the cap too large was a common problem for them.

Same problem on my 1999 Southwind

Went to home depot, got a tube of outdoor silicon and pumped it on to the exposed areas. No problem since

Is a windshield popping out due to road conditions and or the uneven driveways something covered by RV insurance ?

I know my insurance covers rock chips but has anyone pursued insurance to fix this ?

Often caused by improper leveling.

I will add my 2cents here take it for what it is worth. The experiance I have is with a previous gas motorhome. 36'. They try to make these things as acceptable as a diesel coach and some do. However a lot of these coaches are weak in the frame area. Thus twisting occures and stuff happens. I have not had a windshield come out but I really notice the differance in the frame support. I have had three gas coaches and two diesel coaches and they are built differently. They were all quality coaches per my perception. Some of these lower priced coaches are just that. Check them out.
