Yesterday I saw a 2006 38J with 26000 miles and in perfect shape except it needs tires. Anyone out there had any experience with this motorhome ?

We owned a Winnebago Adventurer 38G 2005 for 10 wonderful years, we traded her in this October on our new diesel pusher Allegro 38QRS. The Adventurer was a great MH, drove well, we got an average of 7mpg always towing, always driving mountain, at freeway speeds of 55 to 60 mph. The Norcold frig was an issue at times, and we had the coils replaced about a year ago. The gas engine is noisier than the diesel, but that's because you sit on top of the engine. The Winnebago craftsmanship was excellent. We camped in the cold more than a few times and the insulation was very good. Ride is nice, plenty of power, actually we loved our MH, and we only traded it in because I wanted the extra towing power of a diesel and the quieter ride, and because now I could afford it. Anyone who purchases my Adventurer will receive a lovely well cared for MH with only 50K miles. For information purposes only, the NADA on my MH at trade-in was 60K we accepted a trade of 40K as part of the negotiated purchase price of the new MH.

We have a 38J. We use it about 6 months out of the year. We love the floor plan!!! 36,000 miles on the workhorse W24 chassis, no problems. Crossed the Rockies several times. Plenty of power. 8.1 MPG. Love the basement air and trunks that come out with slides. Wish Winnebago still made them. Hope the one you are looking at has been well maintained.

The 38J is not Winnebago's largest gasser. The 38R is according to Winnebago's brochure.

The 38J only came on the W24 chassis, so no decision there.

The 38J is a very nice floorplan. What I didn't like when I ordered my 38R was the slide came out under the 38J's patio awning. This is one reason we ordered the 38R over a 38J.

The records will tell the story...but it is winne's largest gasser.

If a workhorse chassis, make sure recall has been performed (W22 chassis, if this was a W24 chassis, no recall there)

This has the basement air, make sure it is ok and functional both compressors...I understand parts for that are a bit scarce..but other Winne owners can help you with that...make sure basement air works and blows cold...there was also a plenum adjustment that Winne had for units...
